Does anyone have a fielding stat program/sheet.
I was looking for something similar to the one posted on here
a few months ago with hitting & pitching stats in an excel spreadsheet.
Thanks

Re: Fwasielding State

Google "baseball excel stat sheet" and you'll get a good selection.

The calculation part of it is easy ... the difficult thing usually is someone collecting the stats and doing it properly. You just divide the sum of putouts and assists by the total number of "chances" which is the sum of putouts, assists and errors. Every out has a putout ... the catcher gets the putout on strikeouts she holds onto or tags the runner on. You don't get credited for throws where there is no putout ... e.g., on a base hit to left field that the fielder picks up cleanly and throws in, there is no chance recorded which is kind of interesting but just the way its done. Sorry, I probably answered more than you needed to know!

coachjwb, you mean on foul-tip strikeouts or all strikeouts?

Putouts are credited to the nearest fielder so on strikeouts (foul-tip and otherwise) a catcher gets the credit for a putout and the pitcher gets credit for a strikeout (I know - seems like double dipping!).

well call me stupid!

(b) The official scorer shall credit an automatic putout to the catcher when a:
(1) batter is called out on strikes;
(2) batter is called out for an illegally batted ball;
(3) batter is called out for bunting foul for his third strike;

hey bret, does this go for batting out of the box too, like when slappers go too far out of the box and are out? ?or when a bunt attempt is out of the box and it hits the runner as they go to first?

this is from the MLB rulebook 10.9!!!

uh oh i really need to adjust some numbers!

and then, how do you guys decipher from "mental errors" do you just mark a frown next to the batter's name in the book or automatically have them as a sub for the next game, you know, nothing too subtle

Statman:

I just leave it to "Scorekeeper" on the put-out question (though there are some glitches in the software on other issues). Last time I checked the ATEC scoring guide, a "mental error" is not an error that precludes scoring a hit for the batter. I'll post chapter and verse when I get home and have access to the guide.

BTW, I had the pleasure of meeting Ringer this weekend. He was looking for The Bear May and I had to inform him that TBM was not attending Beavercreek. Ringer's team played a nice game and it was great to just play ball without any extraneous drama.

cgs, yeah, the mlb guide has a big section on mental errors, which are not included in a player's normal errors, those get just jotted down on a mental playbook under answers to why Susy Mc200hitter doesn't play on Sundays

that Ringer is as elusive as a lining crew at Berliner Park...I don't think I'll run into him this year, but i did get to see bretman from afar, and i think johnnies (and team)....i hear "statman" at the park and I drop my brat and run, no telling what I said/did from an earlier bad-statman rant back from the winter or last year...new and improved statman is 30 pounds heavier and quite calmer!
