this is a salute to all the ladies who show up for all practices and games and then get shafted by coaches influenced by parents or other players:: you ladies have a lot of class and great character..:yahoo:

That is a very nice idea. These players should know they do not go unnoticed.

Heart over talent EVERY time. Learned a valuable lesson from my HS Coach, as every year there was at least one OVER-ACHIEVER on our varsity Basketball team (The Rudy Effect). Believe, me the talent sat no matter how good, if they weren't trying as hard as "Rudy".

It's a win, win, win. Hard work & commitment should always be rewarded "IN THE GAMES". Noticing kids efforts and commitment is great, but they deserve to play, especially when there are studs going half speed.

Our jv coach kept a girl this year who had never played softball before. Why? Because she has heart. She has a great attitude and work ethic. In fact, she hit a stand up double the week before last. A chance she would never have been given if the coach had just not paid attention to her and cut her.

I would take girls with heart and desire over girls with talent and no heart every day. You can coach up girls with heart, because you know they will work hard for you. Girls without heart, you will be struggling with their play all year (and their parents:)). Amazing, had this talk with my players yesterday after they laid an egg in the last pool game. Fortunately, have alot of girls with heart, and they played great in the championship game.

How about a shout-out to all the coaches that will stick by their guns regardless of what certain parents say. Don't let the inmates run the asylum.;&

could not agree more have a few that only show when the feel like it or when there parents feel like bringing them and complain when she does not get enough playing time.
my opinion no show for practice like every other girl on the team then no start when it is game time no matter if they are the no1 are not.

I have 2 dds in travel and one dd that is developmentally delayed and plays rec ball. I tell you if it wasnt for my 3 dd's disability she would be an outstanding athlete. She wants to be at practice at least 40 min before so I can hit her balls. Love her to death but it breaks my heart that she will never be able to experience what her sisters get to experience, and what they actually take for granted.

Kudos to those girls that come early and leave late. I had a good number of those types on our 16u team this past summer! We even had practices after the season was over because they wanted to get ready for try-outs! Even if it meant they were going to another program, I gave them all the ground balls, batting practice they could take, well, actually that I could take!!! Good job girls!!!!!:yahoo:

Heart and desire is good and all... But how many heart and desire gets picked over talent at tryouts that lasts 2 hours with 50 or so girls??

I also would take girls with heart and desire....

too bad all coaches dont feel this way. Most Toledo organizations think about parents wants and words over their players capabillities. It seems to be all about the coaches ego and their kid getting to be the star.

Fastpitch is more than a game its also a test of character,Coaches, parents and players all have a job to do. Told my DD that every day on the field is a tryout so keep the effort up and good things will happen.

Shame on the coaches that sell out their integrity to the parents with influence or perceived influence.

Shame on the coaches that sell out the girls that have trusted them, simply to feed their own ego.

Shame on the coaches that think this is all about winning a game and forget that it is about molding young ladies.

Kudos to the girls that keep coming to practice, working hard, waiting for their time to shine.

Kudos to the parents that encourage their dd to keep it all in perspective and know their self worth.

Kudos to the coaches that are doing it right, nurturing the girls, teaching not only softball but life skills as well.

-To all of the coaches that are teaching these young ladies the love of the game ,We thank you
-To all of the coaches that don't have a clue and are on the field to help just his/or hers dd ,please step down from your position ,you are only hurting your dd,and all the other girls on your team .
-To the parents that take that extra time and go to the field after practice ,on a nice sunday afternoon or in the backyard ,as a coach I thank you .
-All of the girls I have helped over the years I hope to never have any say I didnt give them 100% ,for that is all I have ever expected from all of my players ,
