Friendlies

I find it quite interesting to see 12u teams that are not '01 teams playing multi game friendlies in April when girls on the team are also playing on middle school teams that are not club teams. Not sure if parents understand the ramifications for the kid and it's disappointing to see a travel coach blatantly ignoring the rules that have been placed by OHSAA.

All the teams in our area are club ball . We are mostly from Knox county area , I can't say I even know of a team that is school ball and not club .

Our team is usually short about 5 of our 12 for friendlies now due to school ball and sokker. That leaves us with 7 and need to pick up 2 or 3 just to play. We have been grateful to other coaches allowing a few of theirs to play with us. I do agree that it is generally harder for 00 teams than 01 teams to play in April and early May friendlies due to school ball, but we do what we can for our other 7 to get some games prior to the season starting.

I stopped by to watch the 8 team friendly you are probably talking about and I had the same thought, how many of these girls are on a school sponsored team? I would think there were quite a few 7th graders from school teams playing. In this case who will be penalized? It will have to be the players, right? Nothing can be done to the travel coach by the OHSAA and the school coach will claim ignorance. When I read the violations and punishments in the minutes of the OHSAA, it seems the coach gets fined and suspended from games more often that a player in any violation other than eligibility issues involving transfers between districts. So will the OHSAA really care? I doubt it. They do issue rules for MS but their name says it all, they police high school athletes, programs and coaches. Personally if I were the parent I would be torn as to what to do. If you are a parent of a TB player watching those school team games. it can sometimes be brutal. Then here is a chance for your DD to go play with her travel team against much better teams than during school ball? Tough choice. Easy if you a by the book person but tough if your DD is looking at you with those puppy dog eyes and asking why can't I play with my TB team just this one Saturday? Just sayin.

Rules is rules. We all know there are rules that mean something (murder, treason, etc.) and rules that people ignore (speed limits, riding your bike on the sidewalk). Personally, I try to be a rule follower and will make darn sure all of the school players that I am responsible for are as well. At least as long as I have any influence over them.

It's no different than a girl going to a try out.
Yep, you're correct; no different. Neither is allowed.

While I agree Rules Is Rules
I'm not sure I understand the reason for this rule it seems arbitrary if you can play other sports in season why can’t you play or practice the sport you want to play?

Does anyone know the stated reason for this rule?

We are a 14u team who lost 4 to school ball. The other 14u team in our org lost all BUT 4. So, 3 of their 4 are filling holes for us during this time. It works out nicely.

Maybe that is what is going on. I mean, do you know every single girl on that team? What school they go to and if that school offers ball? If you do, I think maybe you have bigger problems than their friendly schedule. JMHO
