In one particular tournament this year we saw an umpire look at the catcher and literally tell her "if your crowd doesn't stop chirping my zone will get even tighter". Now I understand mistakes will be made but the last I checked they were the only ones getting paid. That by definition makes them a professional. So be professional and do the job! This year has been particularly bad with umpiring. We have had some really good ones but by far as a whole it has been terrible.

So...If no ump is going to tell his partner he missed a call, why do we pay 2 umps for the game. I thought the reason for 2 umps was to make sure you get the call right. I'm not saying you should call your partner out by screaming across the field but, I don't see why you can't call time and discuss it if you have a better view of the play.

During one of our games this year at GAPSS we had a girl hit a home run which was about a foot+ to the right of the left side foul pole. Now the foul pole had an extension on it that stuck out about a foot so the ball was at least 2-3 feet in fair territory. The umpire called it a foul ball even though everyone including the other team said it was a HR. Didn't matter to her though there was no way she was going to change her mind. The field ump who also watched the ball go over told her he didn't see it so go figure. It didn't change the outcome of the game but it did rob one of my players of a HR. We had the same umpires for most of the tournament since we played at the same field for most of the tournament and overall they did a good job. Just sometimes when they make obvious mistakes you wonder what goes through their mind.
