We have purchased the hero 4 silver last year and love it. I highly recommend also buying the LynkSpyder for hooking in on the backstop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=douq1tP8CTE&t=651s is a sample of what the picture looks like
Sorry I am late to the party. But if you are new to GoPro and can afford it, the GoPro Hero5 is literally the best, most stable, camera ever made by GoPro. They finally resolve many of the issues that have plagued various models for years. Most notably, wireless is finally more than usable. The video quality is great and the rugged-ability is as good as we have come to expect from GoPro. A close second, is the GoPro Hero4 silver, if you can find a good discounted price.
May be a stupid question, but can you zoom with a GoPro. Would like to use on field as well as in a cage, which would be two totally different focal lengths.

Not a stupid question at all. GoPro doesn't have a zoom. It has what is called "Field of View", or FOV. FOV determines the angle that is shown. This indirectly simulates zoom. So at wide, which is about 150+ degrees, will cover the entire field. However, the outfield may seem farther away and lose some detail. Narrow is around 75 degrees. You won't get the entire field, but the detail will be closer. Most GoPro's have the following FOV: Narrow, Medium, Wide, SuperView. The Hero5 adds one more called Linear. This is between medium and narrow and has no distortion. The wider you get, the more distortion (fisheye) is added.

You can zoom during editing. Still difficult to get great outfield footage. You would want to adjust FOV for cage versus field as previous poster stated.
