We all know that in the last 3 years Hilliard is a feeder for Ready, but now a feeder for Pic Central, WHY are the top players leaving Darby's program

That's funny, last time I checked their top players are still there or graduated from there....

love darby softball as much as the next person but it does seem like they have been lacking the last couple of years. do not think they have done as well since the coaches daughter and a few others have graduated. perhaps this will be their year to beat some powerhouse teams. i know they will get their chance to beat ready as they play them every year at osu varsity field...what a great night for the girls! To bad it is rumered this will be the last year darby gets to play there. i guess the truth will be told on the diamond. good luck darby girls

Unfortunately IMO they'll have to wait until the current crop at Ready is gone. I don't think they can beat Widener and the crew that is left there for this season. Next year would be better odds. JMHO

I do not think they have won against that group at Ready in all the years Widner pitched for Ready, she is the real deal and has the defense/offense to back her up. I heard that Darby will no longer play ready starting next year not sure if this is true or not....something about Ready's upcoming freshman pitcher next year. Darby does have some great talent coming up though...have seen some of the underclassmen play and there is some good players to work with.

The coach is a good coach and he will make due with what is left. He doesn't want people who don't want to be there, and no one player is bigger than the team.
As for the future, I'm sure Darby will find someone else to lead their team as this girl who will attend bishop ready next year hasn't played any high school ball yet, so how good is she? Don't compare her to the great Ready pitchers, by the way, how many did they develop or how many have they recruited? I thought so.
Darby will be fine, the cupboard isn't bare!

I know Darby has a great coach that was never in question in my post. Also did not compare anyone to Ready's pitchers just stating a rumor that I heard that Darby was not going to play Ready anymore at OSU for reasons only I suppose Darby's coaching staff can answer. It is however too bad the Hilliard girl is not going to Darby she is a sweet kid and a decent ball player.

I can tell you are a supporter, sometimes it gets to me that
you have a good program
some people think they are bigger than the program or know more
they critizize because things don't go their way
who cares if they go, the program is fine, you have one of the best coaches in the state, and i wouldn't play the catholic school either if they were taking my players (they also got a top bb player)
then the private school flaunts themselves like they create a great program, when all they do is recruit and thrive of the public school
why dont you do this ready - start the kids when they are young like Hillliard, nurture them thru all the growing pains of the springs, summers, and falls, teach them the skills they need, then strut around because you did something and take credit for developing talent-oh by the why ready the "enroll-e"(not an official "transfer" had some talent before she got to you, but I'm sure you'll take all the credit!
darby will rock, and the team will do better!

You lose Cowher and Joey Porter, don't make the playoffs and you seemed to be disgruntled!
On the girl from Darby to Ready, she is that good. Will it make a difference to Darby, it will, but they have plenty of other girls so Darby will be OK
I coach this young lady, and believe me, she is the real deal, the BEST in Central Ohio at this stage to come around in 25 years! If she stays as passionate to the game as she is now, she will lead her team to many victories.
I work with her pitching, and she makes it easy - you can coach her by mail. If every coach had a kid like this, they would be in the HOF. Heck, I wished she would go to the same school as my daughters, because she will make everyone around her look better.

So take it easy on her, ok. You are usually composed and sensible, and I know what set you off, but don't take it out on her, she can flat out play and I would get ulcers losing players like her! Bad for Darby in this situation is great for Ready

That's alright steeler fan our girls will not even get off the bus as you know they won't have a chance....Shudder.....

Darby has been fine, will be fine and you know what, the reason they go to school is for a quality education and seeing what we have gotten for our money, I wouldn't trade it for anything, seeing many other school districts in other states.

Just like a job, if people want to go elsewhere for an education, let them, it's America and we all have choices.

Too many people look too deep on stuff that is meaningless in 5 years from now. Live your lives with your kids, not through them.

Ok, maybe I am a little upset over Cowher, but Porter can go.
I didn't mean to come of so harsh on the young ladies leaving Darby, that is out of line.
but it isn't a travesty at darby, they have many good young ladies to lead them.
The coach is 2nd to none, and they will continue to be good.

i don't blame the coach for not scheduling ready in the future, as they, like other private schools,
thrive on others success. Like I mentioned prior, why don't they begin a feeder program, I have seen post in the past where they have 50-60 girls a year come up thru the parochial feeder schools, so USE SOME ENERGY on COACHING, not recruiting, and when you do
DONT JUMP UP AND DOWN and proclaim how great you are, give parts of those championships to
Hilliard, Westerville, Gahanna, Pickerington(oops), Upper Arlington, Worthington, and Columbus etc.

GCKA, you have a good judgement on talent, so if you speak so highly, I concede, and hope to see this girl pitch for you somewhere this summer!

Hilliarddad3 sarcasm does not become you...shudder...I would think you having girls in the Hilliard Darby program would want them to have the wonderful experience of playing on the OSU varsity field. I just hope that rumor is not true because it would be a shame to take away this great time from the Panther softball players just because of 1 person.

Rocks,
Don't get me wrong... I would love to see them play at the OSU field. Whether against Ready or anyone. I think more teams should have an opportunity like that to experience. I unfortunately did not make my Daughter's game there last year, as my work has meetings scheduled annually over those dates and felt terrible about missing Senior night. I will most likely miss the game again this year.

I just always root for the underdog that's all. Any given day as you know, Heck 19 Rutgers knocked off #2 Uconn last night... No one jumps into their pants in the morning, we all put them on one leg at a time.

jdawg,

It is a bold statement, but this kid will back it up. I have coached several sports, at all levels, for the past 30 years. I have gone out on a limb very few times about individuals or teams. This is one of those times that I am very confident, because this kid will put in the time to make it happen.

And it is not only her pitching - come out and watch her hit, run bases, play infield, and outfield - she is a game changer, and they are special, and she is in that category, she can take over a game.

In reference to this thread, she lives in Darby's district, and will go elsewhere. I don't know about the other girls that are not in the program, but as a coach, this one would hurt.

GCKA what team do you coach in the summer? How long have you coached this young lady? Who did she play for before ?

If she is that amazing than why isn't the darby coach wanting her to attend darby? There must be a reason?????
Maybe there is some bad history with the sister that just "moved" to P.C. Or maybe there was problems with the PARENTS & coaches ?
It sound like the family might be running away. It all sounds a little fishy....

sounds to me like there is more jealousy than anything about your DD's not matching upto a girl that may (or actually is) wanted by another team! It's not just Hilliard that girls change schools...out in the Marysville/Urbana area where I'm from it's just as popular for them to change schools.

So maybe you should ask yourself what might this player be doing to help herself not only athleticly but academic wise...isn't the whole reason for going to school anyway???? Maybe Ready just has a better education package and softball is just the icing on the cake!

This family has every right to move their dd into the best situation that fits their needs. It happens everyday, in every sport, public or private.

I don't know why the family did this, but it seems to be personal conflict with coach and/or school to move both dd out. It is a free country, it is their choice.

It shouldn't be personal, because everyone is a free agent...why...their are no true feeder programs anymore.

Look at all sports, and begin with gymnastics - it is the clubs...go to swimming - it is the clubs...go to soccer - it is the clubs...switch to softball - it is the clubs (organizations, travel, select, call it what you want) so where is the ownership? Is it the clubs that train the players? Or is it the parents that spend the money on invidual instruction or time driving, or maybe even coaching to take the player to that level.

This is the age of PT's, and kids have to be self motivated and work on their own or they will be passed by.

So coaches, don't get offended, unless you are the rare throw back where you developed the team from day one, it doesn't happen anymore.

It is a recruiting game now, at all levels. We developed it, we live with it. How much can you afford, how much time are you willing to put in.

If these girls are that good, good for their new schools, they win. But coaches at these schools, remember that when the newspapers come around to interview you on your championships, and remember when you had something to offer the "recruit" or "prospective athlete" or "free agent", because that is what we made it.

homeplate,

I have known this young lady for about five years. ?She has played on my teams as a guest player over the last couple of years. ?Prior to that, she has played for her father with the classics. And I feel very privledeged to be able to help in her development as a player and pitcher, and for the record, she was awesome before she came to us, so we just have to challenge her to improve.

Why the coach doesn't pursue her, ask him. ?That is not my business. ?She is a good, quality person, one that I am glad she is playing with us, especially in terms of having my daughter play with her, because it will make my daughter better as a person, a competitor, and a player.

I coach the Nightmare 14u team, and she is that good. ?She could step in a pitch/play for any high school team around today, as an 8th grader, and make a solid impact/improvement. ?If you are affiliated with a high school team or travel team, pm me homeplate, schedule a game with us, and you can see her in person. ?She is that good.

Don't go attacking the family. ?It gets personal when you do that, and that is not right. ?When you use the word fishy, you open up an unwarranted can of worms. ?The parents are good people, and the older daughter is a good person. ?She left, period. ?Your other question or statement problems with the parents was a stupid one, so leave it at that. ?I know the high school coach at Darby, and I am confident he would not have anything bad to say about the players or the family. ?

Let's not make this personal. As a general subject we're okay, but when the replies start getting personal they tend to cross that thin gray line. Having coached a few of the girls at Darby, I know for a fact that they have some talented players, and while a top notch pitcher will take you far this is still a team sport. Which means that you can take a good pitcher, which they had a few of the last time I checked, and possibly go even further if the defense and offense is there to support her.
