My DD was playing for her rec team and was hit by a pitch. Bases were loaded, count was 3-0 when she was hit. My daughter took her base as instructed by the ump. After my DD scored she asked me if she could have stayed batting and not taken the base. Her explanation was the pitcher did not hit her hard enough to justify taking 1st. She had already hit a triple and 2 doubles in the game so I can't say I blame her for wanting to hit. I looked the rule up. Rule 8,section 1F says she is entitled to first base. My question is Can my DD continue her at bat if she choses?

I do not believe so. Dead ball and she is awarded 1st base. As long as she didn't lean into it, then the umpire awards the batter the base no matter how hard the pitch was thrown. IMO.

Nope, sorry, taking first base isn't optional. If ya gotta go, ya gotta go!

Thanks. Guys. I will let her know. She is only 10 so she wouldn't know to lean into a pitch to try to get that call.

Even if batters could decline the HBP award, she would have got it anyway since the count was 3-0...
