Hitting and Hitters Discussion Homerun Hitters??

Strength and size is the key.

My DD hit 10 HR last year (over the 200 ft fence) and about 20 off the fence she was only 11 weighing 185 lbs using an Easton Stealth.

She has three HR so far this year but, she is driving more balls through the infield that is resulting in more doubles and tripples.
She has been going through BEAT training for 10 months dropped weight and gained strength

Combining a good strength trainer with a good bat and a kid that can hit will produce alot of power and runs.

Like I said, I never saw this girl or her team play. I don't know if she's big, tall, strong, etc. Whether she strength trains or if it's just plain old natural athletic ability. I was just surprised to hear the amount of homeruns. If she hits HR's I'm sure she probably has her fair share of doubles and triples too. I'm only going by what I heard. So I wonder, is she the complete package? Infield/outfield??? Or just another good hitter.

www.valleyextreme.com go to the 12U red. It has photos and player profiles under roster and click on each individual girl. Hopefully that will help a little. She is tall but not like she is huge or anything about average for a 13 yo anymore.

At the U12 age the physical maturity level, this does not always mean bigger, ?varies so much that a player who well ahead of the majority of her peers can indeed be dominant at the plate or on the mound. ? If you add in the improved training techniques, ? hi-tech bats, ? and the tiny strike zone I don't doubt this young lady hit 20 home runs. ?The hi-tech bats have indeed made a big difference in offensive production. ? They may not create longer flights but do create higher velocitys espescially through the infield creating more hits and errors. ? ?If someone says this is not true then simply ask them to trade the dd's rocket tech for a wood bat, ? guess what the reaction will be. ? My dd has friends that go to hitting trainers, ? fielding trainers, ? and strength trainers and have done so since they were 13. ?We love softball, ?my dd loves to pitch but no way we do that all for a u14 tourney trophey. ?

Spirit one,

BEAT was recommended to us by our daughters pitching coach.
Strength training is just a part of the program.
They have her down to 150 lbs and her body fat went from 42% to 17%.
This training has made her an all around better / stronger player and a healthier player.
It is a little costly but, the results in health and improved athletic ability have exceeded my expectations and has allowed her to compete when she faces good U12 pitching or the U14 girls.
I would recommend the program to anyone looking to get in shape or improve their strength/power.

As far as the topic of Hitting home runs we have faced a lot of good teams this year that all seem to have at least one girl that has the pop to go yard and they are swinging RT, Synergys, Stealths, Catalyst or Mikens.

I'm surprised wwolff that she bats lead off. Must have speed on her too. Sounds like an all around athlete.

Sportscrazy, thank you for the nice things you've said about my daughter. She works hard to accomplish the things she does. Most importantly though, she is part of a great team that works hard. What she has accomplished is due in part to the support of her coaches and teammates. If she is having a good or bad day hitting, the coaches and girls support and encourage her no matter what she does. These girls all rally around each other and they work well as a group on and off the field. We have a team of talented players who have really come together this year and worked hard for everything they've won. :)

Softball 9295, Do you know what kind of bat she uses? I've never seen this team play. Like I said I just heard the 20 HR "rumor".

Sportscrazy, I don't know what kind of bat she used. To busy watching the ball leave the park! She is a very good fast ball hitter. However, in a game against us we didn't throw any fastballs and nothing left the park. They still won. VE is a very good team!

Sportscrazy, I thought same thing but how bad for team spirt when she comes up and hits a homerun to start the game, could set tone for whole game ? Might also give Haley extra at bat at end of game with game on the line ?

I've seen Haley play many times. The most impressive thing she does to beat you is rob your team of hits. She covers so much ground & throws w/ a quick release & accurate, firm throw. My dd hit a hard grounder against them, past the pitcher going over 2nd base & into center field, or so we all thought. Haley not only got a glove on it, but was able to turn her body & throw my dd out at 1st. And my dd has better than ave. speed.

Just to ponder over. We have a girl on our 12u team that has hit 2 over the fence HR's this year. Probably another 3-4 shots on fields with no or 300' fences that would have been HR's on most HS fields. Now, get ready....... She hit 1 over the fence in a tournament last year at 10u. That's right! She is an 11u player.

Do some research and you'll find that velocity of the ball off the bat is a combination of two things; bat speed and the trampoline effect of the high tech double walled bats. The bats give you other advantages also, such as a much bigger sweet spot. A dinger off the handle or end of a wood bat becomes a medium speed grounder or blooped Texas-leaguer over the infielder's heads. But a Rocket Tech bat is only a tool. Against decent pitching, it won't produce great results in the hands of a kid with a dismal swing.

Bat speed is king. A 200 lb. 5'9" 12u kid won't hit a ball any harder than a 5' 100 lb. 12u - UNLESS she has superior bat speed. Strength is only a small part of the equation. It's about good mechanics and quickness. Good CORE strength (not arms) combined with speed will get the bat around MUCH faster.

Good hitters, regardless of size, have a combination of confidence, vision, and swing mechanics. Consistent power hitters with high batting averages tend to get the bat on plane with the pitch quickly, and keep it in the hitting zone much longer than a typical "wrist-roller" & "back-slapper" type of hitter. Teach a 12u kid to hit the ball VERY hard, and watch the middle infielders bobble those hot potatoes! The "wrist flick" swings just won't get it done.

I believe the size of the player is a huge factor in their batting. ?There's a girl on the GFOD 12U team (#8) that hits a homerun nearly every game she plays. ?She's oh.......5'7", 155 - 160 pounds. ?Her arms are big and you know she can hit before she ever swings the bat. ?I have no idea if she's strenght training but hitting is definately something she's mastered. ?There's also a girl on the Ashland Blaze 12U team (I think she's #12??) that looks to be nearly 6' tall and 180 pounds and absolutely cannons the ball when she bats. ?How in the name of Babe Ruth do we grow 12 and 13 year old girls this size???? ?Big girls with lots of power are definatley becoming the norm in this sport. ?I'm amazed at the talent and strength everytime I watch them play. ?If you watch the college games you see so much "size" to these girls. ?Makes you wonder if the smaller ladies can stay competitive as they get older. ?I still see many competitive "smaller" girls playing ball, but its getting less and less. ?Either way, the strenght and talent of these young girls is extremely impressive.
