I should know this answer, but I don't. All of these tryouts going on, how do you know what positions they're looking for for next season? Don't want to waste time if they already have 4 pitchers!

Buckeye Heat organization will DEFINITELY be posting specific team needs. For the Heat 95 team, we will post in the next few days, depending upon final decisions of our current roster whether they want to continue on this team. We have never had more than a few candidates show up for try-outs, because we are painfully honest about what we need. This year, we may be seeking as many as three new players.

We will post a full description of what we need prior to the try-out date. If other teams that you are looking to do not post that specific description, IMHO you have clear rights to call or PM them about those specifics.

Best of luck to teams and players in the upcoming tryouts.

The really big question is if the number 1 pitcher is the head coaches daughter and the number 2 pitcher is the assisant coaches daughter. Your DD could be Jenny Finch on Steroids and still ride the pine.

I know that my co-coach, Mark Skapin and I have stated on our tryout thread what we will be looking for as of right now for the Madness Red which will be a older 14u team next season. Once we have completed nationals, we will set down and discuss where we are sitting overall and then adjust our needs accordingly. (Love not having any players I am related to on the team. . .makes the politics a mute point.)

Many times coaches really don't know what their needs will before the next season, until the current season is over and they talk to their players to determine what directions they will be going in for the next season. Hard to post until you have the information in hand. Sometimes that doesn't occur until tryouts. JMHO

Just talk to the coach.........if he/she makes it a point to tell you that their entire starting infield is returning, good chance that they are not looking for infielders. Lol. :).

A. Sharpen your fly ball skills
B. Keep on looking

I don't necessarily agree with girls being given roster spots from year to year. I would rather think of it as EVERY position is up for grabs during tryouts and if a new girl shows me in tryouts that she is better than a returning player then I would take her and let them compete in practice for the starting position. Granted most coaches have a soft spot for returning players because we know what to expect from that player, but there is still something to be said for every girl to earn her position on the team, returning player or not. bad thing is, truthfully, most of the teams already know who they want...not to bust a bubble or anything

Do most of those same teams express their needs to the players trying out?

I am an assistant coach and my dd is a pitcher. This upcoming season I know we will be looking for another #1 type pitcher that also feels they would perform better if they were on an every other game type rotation. Plenty of innings to be had as long a said pitcher works hard and performs well.

Many teams are going to 11u/13u/15u teams so they can find a group of girls, develop them and grow as a team. They don't want to deal with losing half their team every year because of age, and start the whole process over every year. So most teams might lose one or two and need to replace them.

Improving a position and getting an unknown over keeping a good coach-able kid, that's improving and has good parents should count for more. If the dedication and the work ethic slips or they decide they would like to move on... god bless and good luck. I just don't think a lot of teams are looking to wipe out and revamp a whole team

not busting a bubble but rather speaking the truth....I see very good teams posting for all positions open when in reality two to three spots are already gone because that is their kids spot...then you add those players that are really good at their spot leaving only one or two spaces available because someone leaves or they already know who they want in that spot

me really just dislike it because they are wasting peoples time and putting the hopes of a young girl down the drain but guess that is the name of the game

Some know who they want but there is always the possibility of a really good unknown player showing up who could really help out the team. Why not give EVERYONE the opportunity to give it a try?? Just like this is the time of the year for frustrated unhappy parents, it is also the time of the year for tears and broken hearts from not making the teams you had your hearts set on. It isn't fun for the coaches to hurt feelings but if we aren't honest and take any girl who cries or really wanted it, there would be even more frustrated parents posts this time of year.

I agree. If the coaches have already decided who to bring back, then the team should not advertise that all positions are open. It is Ted's policy that he will invite people back prior to tryouts. Therefore it is our practice to only advertise for positions that we need.

I learned to call the coach and ask. Sometimes when I emailed the coach they would tell me that all positions are open, but I knew that the team was only losing one or two players.
