I wish we could have started our dd out earlier, say at 10U, but the experience dd had in OGSO as 10- and 11-year-old made her determined to find a team of girls that took the game as seriously as she did.

10U too young??? If you wait much longer than that, your dd will have a disadvantage over most of the other girls, they start them young now. When kids try to get into travel at 12U, even if they are incredibly athletic they are usually pretty far below the other kids who have played travel before.

I would like some clarification to what Streak said a few posts back about losing a girl to another team. It was my understanding once you play in an ASA qualifier you can't play with another team in in any ASA qualifiers the remainder of the year. At least that is what I was told last year when we picked up a girl.

Apparently she cleared the ASA when the new team sent in the roster card. It took me two months to get our sanctioning and I guess they didnt have her information. We did play in the qualifier. The worse part is she has played on 5 different teams in less than two years.

Let me know if that rule applies because I dont want to be in any violation. I am getting clarification from the ASA.

Completely agree with this statement. We were introduced at 8U and we've been hooked every since. My oldest gave it a try at 12u, but realized it wasn't for her.

I think Jaguar has ir close to starting at a team at 10U. I think it is important for a local bunch of girls to play with a select team at 9 while playing rec to see whether or not they belong to a true travel team. If not, if they stay together continue to play locally and a couple challenging tournaments, the local hs gets the benefits.

I guess our dd has been lucky. She didn't start playing softball until she was 10. Played on her first travel ball team at 12, and started pitching lessons in August when she was 11. She pitched part of the time on her last year in OGSO when she was 12. The first time she was a full-time pitcher was her first year at 14U. She must be doing something right. (I'm sorry for the bragging.) So far in her TB team's fall and winter tournaments she's hitting .400, and is one of the top pitchers. If you love the game and are willing to work to get better, good things will happen.
