How NOT to Act as a Spectator...

In a lot of states assults on coaches and umpires (officials) are considered felonies. Not sure about Ohio.

They should be felonies, an assault is an assault. What someones percieves as a bad call in a ball game does not justify attacking a person. I think there should be some kind of extra penalty for assaulting umpires or referees.

But to add to the list of how not to act like a spectator, I have one....quit ringing those dang cow bells!!! Man that goes through my head like a nail.

ASA Rules ban noise makers during Championship Play, at least in the dugout. Rule is somewhat ambiguous regarding fan use of noise makers, but I would sure love to see the rule changed to make it clear that no noise makers should be used by anyone in Championship Play (actually, I would love to see the rule cover all ASA-sanctioned games).

WOW. I am just curious if the reporters actually did any investigating at all? They should not have stated during a little league game because to the novice youth parent, they would think during actual Little League sanctioned competition. This was during a USSSA youth baseball tournament game. If I was affiliated with Little League Inc, I would want that clarified ASAP.

Not condoning the behavior as this would be the worst case scenario possible for a TD or official especially at Berliner where you can feel "on your own" at times during the large events down there. Just not sure how officials feel down there during the big events. We had TD's and UIC's for every 6 fields for the large World Series we used to run down there and even with 6 fields, it was hard to monitor everything if all 6 fields ended at the same time slot.

Wow, how classy! You know people like that ruin the sport. Any sport, especially one where 11 hr old kids are playing. I have no sympathy for the parents who attacked the umps. Ban them from every park for life as far as im concerned. Hell with em! If a parent did that at one of my kids sporting events, there soul better belong to jesus because there a++ would belong to me! Off the feild of course. Is that being contradictive? Pretty sure it is. Lol..... seriously, pitch em for life.

Wow! That's horrible. I was just thinking about this, this weekend and wondering how out of control things get with boys. I was also wondering why verbal abuse from a parent on the sidelines is viewed as ok. It needs to stop! I saw some of the worst I have ever seen this past weekend.

IMHO - Every TD has the right to have their own additional rules governing behavour at their event. Artificial noise makers should be banned at all levels. Why do fans feel the need to be part of, and possibly influence a game played by kids?

The police think it wasn't serious? An assault is an assault! Shame on you CPD! They don't have enough coverage at Berliner as it is! For anyone playing there, do not leave valuables in your cars either as break inns occur every event there!!!!

Shame on those Grove City Parents, a black eye for your town is all that is, when something like that hits local TV....

We have banned noise makers of all kinds at Beavercreek for the past 17 years-- they add nothing to the game!!!

ASA banned artificial noise makers last year at all levels. I had the UIC at our tournaments enforcing it too. Most folks were okay with it and just simply cheered louder. LoL

3dm, thanks for the update. I'll have to check the new rules to see whether it applies to fans as well as to the dugout.

Sorry guys/gals..I LOVE cowbells...I bought like 20 of them to distribute to all my parents!!!! ok, ok, it is only 8u/coach pitch and they are rung for any good hit or play, regardless of the team, but my oldest's college team found anything and everything to make as much noise as they possibly could...hmmm, college rec, I guess if you say so!

We made alot of noise in college too, we whistled and cheered our heads off...but cow bells would have earned us an hour or so of hill sprints.
