whats your take on the time a schedule should be out for any event Especially BIG events that bring teams from multiple states?

1 week?
10 days?
2 weeks?

how about 3 1/2 days ?????? a school day and work day for most... schedule for games starting Friday 10 AM and schedule doesn't come out until 3 1/2 days before the event? COME ON MAN. that's just either lazy or just not thinking straight. lucky i live close, lucky my kids are in college, lucky i can get at least 9 players there but the others can't make it. if the schedule was out 1 week or 10 days before i think some arrangements could have been made, How about hotels? canceling or booking when the schedule doesn't come out until 3 days prior? I honestly cant remember this ever happening..

Rant over.

you would think with a decent cut off date for registration, schedule would be out min 2 weeks before event.

10 days to 2 weeks for sure. However, the TD is this case knows full well he can do whatever he wants because teams will continue to flock to his "prestigious" events regardless of it being a school day or not. When coaches stop supporting this, then things will change for the better.

Man, when I hosted tournaments I had the schedule posted online with pool play, bracket play for the whole event 3 weeks out. When your pool play was over you knew exactly what time your bracket game was based on results of your pool play. But I will say it took me 7 years to get to that point as a (TD).

I would say two week out for all tournaments except really large ones with over 100 teams I believe a month out would be just about right.

I think we maybe getting a little of track here. This isn't about the schedule, well at least in my initial reply. The original statement was, is getting the schedule yesterday for a tournament that starts Friday morning OK. No it is not. Kids needs to make arrangements at school and parents most likely need to take off of work.

This could lead to another discussion and also part of my original reply. Tournaments during the week while school is in, is something that no coaches should support. The wrong message is being sent to the kids, that in my case at least, 12u softball is more important than school. To me, as much as I want the girls to play, is simply laughable. However, coaches continue to sign up for these "premier" events and the TD keep touting them as the "best of the best", with some teams traveling cross country, so obviously I'm in the minority thinking here.

Again, I'm not going to name names, but there is only 1 person who runs PGF events pretty much Indiana and east so it should be pretty easy to figure out.

I'm thinking maybe his team doesn't play 'A' level tournaments.

I agree with IRdad09's comments and that these kids should not be getting out of school to play softball, although I am not sure many of the players are gonna care .

However I will say as a coach of a team playing in this tournament starting at 12:40 Friday, I was aware as well as all my parents late last year when we signed up that this tournament starts Friday @ 10am. The registration information clearly states that. Again, not saying it's right however all the coaches that signed up knew this.

In the end I would of appreciated the schedule much sooner then yesterday.

Same boat here Lasers. We knew this as well as the precident has been set with these tournaments, plus the registration clearly stated when it started.

I don't know what the right or wrong answer is. I just have my opinion on it. The TD should take school into account. During the summer do whatever with the schedule, during the school year there are plenty of ways around playing on Friday.

At least it is a "local" tournament. Unfortunately, everyone better bring a canoe.
