Best clinic I have ever been to, and all I did was watch!! I feel that the parents and coaches will get as much, if not more, from Howard than the girls. I would highly recommend this clinic if you want to take your game to the next level.

I personally want to know, if and when, you bring him in, I would really like to see Howard in action again.

?You will never find anyone better at teaching infield than Howard. You need to get his tapes (softballskills.com) 1st though, because, at least 3 years ago, he really wanted to work with kids that had been exposed to his style of play before flying out here for a seminar.
? ?If I was starting a new team, I would teach the kids the basics of his style and then have him in for a clinic before I bought a hitting net or anything else but balls. If you have Howard in you better have about 75 balls on hand because you`ll need them.... ?

My dd attended an HK clinic and loved it. ? Howard worked hard, ? the players worked hard and learned something. ? The HK clinic is one of the few clinics I have seen, ? and I have seen a lot of them, ?where you learned a technique and acutally worked to make it your own. ? The objective was not an autograph or a picture but the players seemed to enjoy it. ? I would highly recommend it.

Some clinics are just fundraisers and the same old stuff gets kind of taught. Howard's clinics are no BS and feel-good, but good material and one tough day for the girls. His methods make sense, but take a lot of work.

Great clinics. ?If your DD ever attends one, make sure she understands that Howard doesn't mince words. ?I think my DD still has dreams in which he is shouting "too slow!, too slow!" and "Lefty, she's killing you!". ?Great fun IF your DD comes prepared to take the flack in stride . . . I've seen a few girls who reacted either with anger or tears and probably lost some of the value of clinic. ?Kobata doesn't intend that result, he's just really enthusiastic when he's putting the girls through their paces.

BTW, I've got a great "I survived Howard Kobata" pic that I can post if TBM or someone else can tell me how to do that.

I keep quoting the line "I have 10 year olds who can do this better than you!" Howard definitely sets a pace that is challenging to maintain, but my DD has loved every clinic she's had with him. Couple of keys to benefiting from what he is teaching:

  • Go in KNOWING that you will work hard, you will not be perfect the 1st, 2nd,...30th time, it will feel awkward or strange at first, and if you really make it your own you will be better than your competition.
  • You must be committed to practicing (and practicing, and practicing...), and using what he is teaching until it becomes second nature.
  • It is an agressive approach and you must be willing to go full out every time.
