With 16u ASA Nationals right around the corner are we going to see another Laser team make a run and go deep in the tournament? Which brings me two a few debatable questions........ Is anything less than a top 10 finish considered a disappointment? With the Scarlet clearly having the Whites number over the years is JP's winning percentage so high because he's a better coach or is it the fact at one time or the other he's had every strong kid in the teams age bracket playing for him or did Glenn get more from his talent and his team caught fire at the right time? Was it an easy draw in the bracket? If your kid was strong enough a player to play on one of these teams who would you want her to play for? Or are we looking at a sleeper team from Ohio making a run? One thing I do know for sure is you will never hear a debate like this brought up about East Side teams or coaches making a good showing at ASA USA A Nationals!:lmao:

I guess east side teams from OHIO,,, because the Valley Extreme Blue is a great team..... But on a side note where do you consider the Lasers from,,,,Because they are not from any one area, they are from EVERYWHERE....WHICH INCLUDES 3 OR 4 STATES

I'll discuss the what I think will happen @ nationals with Lasers and other teams but I won't compare White & Scarlet. At this point, I really don't think it matters to anyone who is better between the two. Let's remember there is an age difference but again it really doesn't matter.

White had an amazing run last year with a 9th place finish. They were an extremely strong team which showed by almost everyone on the roster being offered some type of college $$. But they did lose to Scarlet last year at ASA states.

Scarlet this year is a MUCH different team than last year. IMO, I think they were a bit better last year. They lost a few girls to the Bandits and some were in key positions. This is not to say they aren't still excellent but I did see them play very flat against Florida Stingrays (very young 16U) in a 3 3 tie and Silver pushed them to the brink in a 3 2 final. It's just hard for me to imagine how good they could be if they still had the nucleus from last year's roster.

The bulk of their season has been spent playing @ the 18U level. This is not their fault as this year we saw an interesting rule disallowing a berth winner to compete in a sanctioned qualifier. Weird rule IMO, but this pushed them into a no win situation because they certainly can't play 16U ball against the non-top tier teams in the state.

Playing 18U will most likely prepare them to compete at a very high level @ ASA. I think it will look a lot like the latter stages of the Lasers tournament which they were poised to win. Yes, I know they won it but the final wasn't played.
Bottom line, they should certainly win some games in Chatt. on talent alone. I think they'll be there late but a lot depends on the draw. Blind draws can sometimes pit two of the top teams against each other the very first round or two. It could depend on how in shape they are and how their pitchers handle the heat.

I'd say JP wouldn't settle for anything less than top 20 and consider it a success. With a tournament of 171 of the top teams that seems highly respectable to me. Although, you could play the "Premier" card and not consider some of the west coast teams in attendance the top programs. Either way, I can't image anyone would consider inside the top 20 a failure by any means.


As for the rest going. I look for strong showings from all of them with higher placements coming from Doom, Sapphires, Explosion and Tidalwaves. I think they have been the most consistent performers over the past 2 years with both Tidalwaves and Doom having the big show experience from last year.

I'm picking JP, only because if i don't, his henchman Gambone will certainly find a way to have me buried under the Spano Dome (even though it's Ohio Ice territory, he could always give them an offer they couldn't refuse). And two, if you ever left the Scarlet, they do things like hitting their ex-pitchers when they bat and things like that. Maybe even have their girls intimidate them during games. Now i wouldn't know of anything like this ever happening, mind you, just sayin....

Does Glenn even have an assistant? I've never even seen anyone walking with him at the park, he's like the guy in Kung fu, walking the parks alone, knocking down haters. Although, for hitting prowess alone, I'd go with Glenn.

As for colors, Lasers Scarlet is slightly more tough than White. Their uniforms are more red, that color of power, rather than white, well, blue actually (why not Lasers Blue?). Then again, Lasers Scarlet wear white on some days too. I'm so confused. No wonder Heart of Ohio go with adjectives. Heart of Ohio Sunburn coming soon.

Then again, maybe i'd be a Nightmare or Doom parent. Either way, uniforms and names spell certain doom, no pun intended, and gives people nightmares. I could work for Abruzzesse (sp?) doing "consultant" work (hey, that's what Gambone does!) and I'm actually taller than those guys which is good for ego issues. Glen is like 6'9" or something and JP with the sunglasses and the gleaming dome, that's tough when you're walking into a bar and the ladies have to choose between statman's belly and a tow truck looking guy like JP. Nightmare coaches walk in, i'm raking the chicks in!
