[Softball] Tigers split the doubleheader, help Thornton reach rare milestone
Georgetown College coach Thomas Thornton joined elite levels Wednesday evening. In his 17th season at the helm of the Tiger softball program, an 8-2 win over No. 13 Campbellsville University, gave him career win 500. Through a record search, only men's basketball coach Jim Reid, volleyball coach Donna Hawkins and women's basketball coach Susan Johnson have that many wins at GC.
"I am honored to be consider among such coaches as Reid, Hawkins and Johnson, three of my mentors when I was a student at Georgetown," Thornton said. "These wins, however, belong to so much more than me. I recruit the right players, but my volunteer assistants and every player to come through our program make this moment possible."
He currently sits at 500-275 in 16-plus seasons. Georgetown has won three Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles in that time frame with two national tournament appearances.
