"...if the opposing coach is an absolute TOOL..."

...how do you address it?

I have my own special way...which I'll save until I use it because I want to have the full impact. And I think its great in my own mind and I don't want anyone to tell it's stupid... Musty and Gophy, don't go there! Recent discussions with our fellow coaches have brought this topic up so I throw it out there just so we can have some fun

Just smile sweetly, and say "Bless your heart..." Eventually, they will figure out what you mean...lol.

ETA - Not sure how well that would work for you male coaches.... might make you look a little less manly... hahaha

My wife is a school teacher and the travel coach.

She was playing a team one time (10U)and pounding them. She was pulling in girls who had never pitched to try to stop the insanity. This team was horrible. Anyway, the coach starts yelling how we are a bunch of bullies and I hope we feel better about ourselves. And then the girls pitching hits 3 girls in a row and he accuses her of doing it on purpose (the girl...my wife...we never really knew).

At this point my wife walks out into the middle of the field and tells him (while pointing a finger...classic teacher pose) that his behavior is just not acceptable and that he needs to take a time out and get himself together. The coach looked dumbfounded.......the umpire had lost complete control already and just stood there and she told him to go back into his dugout and act like an adult.......

The best part of this whole story is that he brought his daughter to play for my wife. And he just sits in the stands and watches. He is actually my favorite parent to talk to. He is completely chilled out in the stands.

If the coach is just acting like a fool I let the umpires handle it. Once his/her actics become directed at a player or become personal I address it. I usually go directly to the home plate umpire and give him a chance to calm the yoyo down. If that doesn't work I have someone go get the UIC and/or TD. That usually takes care of it. If not I am fully capable of "tooling it up" with him...lol

My wife is a very smart lady. She has always said that softball parents don't really get it until their DD's hit 16u. I totally believe it. The same can be said for most "tool" coaches.

Many differnt ways to handle a "tool"!! If its directed toward a ump, most coaches kick back and enjoy the show. Once it is directed to a kid on a
coaches team they usually will defend their kids...And rightfully so.. With this
post started I assume that you have crossed paths with one or two.;&

I was a site manager for a tournament. I was making my rounds around the different fields and came upon a 12U game between 2 well-known organizations. I watched for a while as the coaches and assistants jawed back and forth through the inning that I witnessed. When the next 1/2 inning was over, I walked out behind home plate, called both head coaches out and explained to them in a voice that only they could hear that if the coaches cannot stop jawing and get back to coaching, that I would have all of the coaches removed and have some college girls finish coaching the game. After that they didn't act up for the rest of the tournament.

That's great except when the ump pretends not to notice and has to be told to do his job. Usually that backfires.

This is easy, put your hardest throwing pitcher in the game, hopefully she can bring 60 or so, and have her launch the first pitch in his or hers dugout......:lmao:.......JK

Not really - just quickly get the UIC and/or TD. In our first event at tOSU there was a coach making an absolute fool of himself in the second pool play game. After the umpires let it go too long I walked into that coaches dugout with the tourneys checkbook. I told him that if I heard another word from him, his coaches or the spectators I would give him a prorated check and he was done for the weekend. They shut up, finished the event and were never invited back.

TD's have the responsibility to control the masses. Good ones don't wait around for others to handle things.
