I am POSITIVE that this has been discussed here. When can Middle Schools conduct tryouts? The earliest dates?

I don't know for sure about middle school ball, but high school players report for school ball on February 25.

Thanks. I would assume Middle School would be the same.

Last year tryouts for middle school softball took place while my daughter was still playing middle school basketball due to the Patriot Athletic Conference tournament (first/second week of March). Once basketball was over, the girls that played basketball then went to softball tryouts. They could not attend anything softball until basketball was over...it was not an issue because there were no cuts from the softball team (combined 7th and 8th grade team)

I may have to deal with that next year if they cancel athletics due to a levy not passing. If I get wind they won't have athletics I'm going to post so much that OFC is going to have to buy an additional server just to keep up.

too funny... they'll ban you to the Politics section only if you do that!

Our MS club team has been in the same scenario since day 1... but they do have support from the Varsity and JV coaches. Just a money thing...

They did away with the pitchers and catchers designation last year. It goes for everyone to report.

Our JH is sanctioned and follows OHSAA guidelines. Not sure if this is the rule, or a way to simplify by the AD.

When our dd was middle school age (she's a soph now) tryouts were after the high school ones, so it was basically the first 2 weeks of March

If sanctioned, first day allowed is7 weeks from today - 2/25......
If not, they can do whatever they want........which, I think is wrong - but that is the way it is....

I like it... why do they need to control every year of a student-athlete... they don't own anyone. Does hurt the sanctioned teams, that I understand. But why can't they work outside the timeline just like HS teams do with the "winter" leagues?

The OHSAA did away with the "pitcher / catcher" report 2 weeks early thing last year and everyone reports the same time. That is unless they changed it back this year.

Why is it wrong? Do you think it's an advantage for the club teams because they can start earlier? Yeah, you're right, it is, and it's awesome! The coaches were able to get so much accomplished with some of the kids. It truly helped some kids out and they are better because of it. I'm sorry, but the OHSAA have some rules in place that can actually hold back some kids and it actually spews mediocrity amongst the masses.
