Indoor Drills

It's that time of the year again when we have to hibernate to dark & dingy indoor facilities. Some are spacious and some are not.

What are coaches' favorite indoor drills?

Our team played "Ultimate Softball" at some recent practices. We had teams of 3 play against another squad of 3 on a basketball court. Using "Ultimate Frisbee" rules, a team would have to advance the ball to the opposite endline by a series of throws and successful catches. We set tight rules of 0 or 1 steps after a catch. A dropped throw resulted in a turnover to the other team. The players were able to work on a variety of short and long throws, and various flips, and their teammates worked on moving to the ball, etc. Winners played on. Keep playing until one team wins 3-5 series.

We concentrate mainly on swing building, fielding drills, and live hitting. Having access to a full infield all the time helps.

I have some drills in a free package on my site that should give you plenty of indoor and outdoor drills. There is an example of the size of the drills in the upgraded package.

In the upgrade you not only get larger flash files but you get a ton useful information, free computer programs (more coming), a few games, and lifetime upgrades (my lifetime).

When you go HERE you will see a small version of an upgraded flash file of what to do with ball 4 and you have a runner on 3rd.

Its small but you should be able to see a button on the right that will give you a slow motion version that has explanations coming in at the appropriate time. The left buttons will give you option1 and option2 for your defense.

Like in the drills in the upgrade, if the words go too fast you can pause or go forward and back one frame at a time with the middle buttons.

Have fun with the free version.

What helps with swing building, is always a hitting T. Then you can always see what is wrong with your swing mechanics.
