Injuries

It seems that there are more teams looking for players this year, due to injuries, than ever. Is it overuse, accidental, or not being physically prepared for the demands of the game? Or, just the nature of the game? Our team included.

Thoughts?

I've also noticed that there are more ads for players due to injuries than in the past. Could be that there really aren't any more injuries, but instead 1) more coaches are aware of the OFC and its usefulness in getting replacement players; and 2) the increasing pressure to keep small playing rosters (and therefore more playing time for rostered players) means when a player goes down the team has no choice but to try to pick up someone new. Ted and I differ somewhat on the philosophy of keeping a small roster, as I am very nervous when we have a roster of 11 precisely because of the injury factor. Although I also understand that the coaching staff's life is made a lot easier when we are not splitting the pie among 12 players.

Or it could be that we are just getting more and more injuries in fastpitch. What the cause would be for increased injuries, I don't have a clue.

One of my players tore her ACL playing HS VB (Aug), got released in Jan to comeback & 3 days later tore it again playing VB!!!! Truely an aweful situation for her. Personally I think girls are playing more sports for longer times & training harder than ever. Understanding the knee situation/construction between male & female only re-enforces Howard's sentiment about teaching them to land on a flex knee.
