My opinion on the broken toe is to go see a doctor that deals with sports injuries. In my area Dr. Barrow out of Good Samaritan North is who I would pick. They know more about getting kids back on the field in a safe manner then the typical ER doctor would.

I agree with your typical ER doctors not being on the ball when it comes to making the right decision on injuries. They give their quick opinion then move on down to the next room on their rounds.

The Orthopedic we saw today is a specialist who deals with sports injuries and works with athletes. He deals with the surrounding teams in our area. You need a referral to see him. He is good. As of right now we got 3 new opinions the past two days (excluding ER docs) and they all say the same thing.

Daughter is down in the dumps now. The look on her face was painful when he said 5 weeks no sports of any kind and no shoes either. She gets rechecked in two weeks.

It is a thought though to maybe see another one just in case.................

Id feel a little better if it was a sports injury, but it wasnt. She was cleaning her room monday night and she wasnt wearing any shoes. She wasnt looking (I guess) and she rammed her foot into a huge piece of a wood support that holds up her wooden bunk bed.
Her grandfather made this bed himself,so he got that strong wood. Broke the one toe and slightly split open the other toe.

She is now stuck wearing that walking boot for the next several weeks and has to keep off it several times a day,but she can still walk around on it.
If the coaching staff dont mind we will still go to a couple of tournaments and watch them play and let her hang out with her teammates.
Just haft to see what they say. I just had to inform them that she is done til atleast July and what how they would want to handle this. We are waiting to hear back from them
Im sure they are not to please at all with this, espicially us being new to the organization.

If they dont give us the finger (LOL) we will come down for atleast one day next weekend in Columbus and let her stay in Toledo with them the following weekend. Toledo is only 50 minutes away from us.
If we head down next weekend, we will meet up. We wont be hard to fine. I will have the sad looking girl with a walking boot beside me.

Lake,

This could have future reprecussions. When asked to clean her room she may run screaming from the house.

Get use to a perpetually dirty room.

Also, the first of July is the heart of the season. She may be able to come back. Have hope.

Now I know why she never liked cleaning her room all these years,LOL! I feel bad for her right now. She is really down and beating her self up. She talked with me tonight wandering if there is any way she can come back quicker than 5 weeks. I said if there is a way that she is almost pain free and it wont make things worse with her toe, then yeah she can come back sooner.
She gets rechecked in 2 weeks and they will take new x-rays. We can only hope!!!!

Viper22 -

We will probably come on down on Saturday to watch a couple of games and support our team and girls. Coach Brian was very understanding and hasnt created a voo-doo doll as of yet of us! :D
We will see ya down there next week!
