Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Jenny Finch vs Baseball Player

Give the player two weeks of practice then see if he can hit it. Put Jenny or another good hitter against the baseball player and see how they do.

It's interesting but the massive bias takes away from the actual science.

"A GIRL STRUCK OUT A BOY THAT MEANS IT'S HARDER!"

"Did the girl bat against the boy?"

"JENNY FINCH! JENNY FINCH!"

Again not to take away from the science shown but at least don't twist it.

Why do you not see any of the top softball players bat against a top MLB pitcher? Because it would be an instant fail and would be deemed as unfair because a man would be showing their athletic dominance over a woman, which is not good in the public light. It's okay for a woman to show up a man in our society, not the other way around.

Have you ever wondered why there are not women in the MLB? There's millions of dollars to be had if there were any good enough.....and don't give me that crud about MLB teams not wanting women on their teams. If they could hang with the big boys teams would take them in a heartbeat by the publicity it would generate alone. A woman on an MLB team would be instant revenue for that team and would be ground-breaking news, vaulting that MLB team into the spotlight.

WM 83 is right, give an MLB player a couple of weeks studying the under hand release and pitch movement, and Finch or any other female top pitcher would get lit up.

Not disputing that fact at all. ;) Still a cool science video. :)

Just a thought, but was the glass plate weakened by the male pitcher, then Finch finished it off?

I'm not sure Jennie Finch or any TOP female pitcher would get "lit up" by any MLB player. They may hit them, and some probably better than the best female hitters, but lite them up.......I doubt it. The pitcher still has the advantage.

I'm with WM 83 and Lenski - especially if they're playing on a softball field.

A local high school plays a coed FP game with varsity baseball and softball players. Two of the softball pitchers are committed to D-1 schools, Pittsburgh and Memphis, and the final score was 11-11. They pitched from behind a screen to make sure they didn't get hurt. Here's a video report of the game - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2_MbnmfNcY

I think a lot of women and girls have been tired of hearing from people outside of the world of softball that "softball is easy", and "baseball is harder".

It takes some doing for a high school boy to respect softball as a difficult sport. I think this video went a long way in helping improve the image of softball as a true sport. I always just saw it as proof of the legitimacy of softball, not necessarily a proof that baseball players can't hit.

That may be what they say or imply, I haven't watched it in a while, I admit. Maybe someone should take the video a step further and show the baseball player going through two weeks of practice, the adaptations he has to make, and his success or failure.

The video was fun to watch. However the comparisons weren't true to fairness. Jenny Finch is considered one of the best or THE best in the women's game. The male pitcher was hardly a Nolan Ryan and the hitter wasn't exactly Joey Votto or Albert Pujols. WM 83 and Lenski are spot on.
