Lasers was a well run tournament and had unbelievable teams in the 16u.

On Sunday, why do they mix teams that were 1-5 or 0-6 with teams that were 6-0 or 5-1? One 5-1 team won their first 4 bracket games 14-0, 12-0, 10-0, and 12-0. That cannot be all that fun can it? Hats off to them as they were just playing the team in front of them and doing very well.

I realize its all 16u but both groups would be better off playing their own level of competition? Thoughts?

I'm guessing nobody took a knee during the National Anthem.

It's a good point, but I think teams choose their competition level with the tournaments they enter. There is no way to ensure all games are going to be competitive at any tournament. I applaud some of the teams who maybe went 1-6 or 0-7 and stepped up to play the Lasers tournament, rather than staying close to home and maybe winning the local tournament.

I think the competition level sorts itself out over time, as the better teams enter better tournaments and each team finds its limit.

Great tournament. However the City of Columbus, who collect a gate from each and every car, each day of all tournaments gets a huge "BOO"! Since the city will not let hosting teams parents take care of the fields, how about at least dragging the fields between at least every couple of games played on them. Yesterday, Sunday, the field we played on the entire day was dragged before the first morning game and then not until the championship game, at the end of the day. The field was literally a sand volleyball pit. And, the pitcher's circle had holes about halfway to China, near the rubber and at the landing points. If you're gonna gate fee every car every single day, get out there and hustle the fields for crying out loud.

I was a little disappointed in some of the fields and lack of consistency in rules, etc. No batter boxes does not mean that you can step out halfway to the pitchers mat that is sometimes uneven and slides and trip with your cleats that are supposedly banned for pitchers. Most teams had 3 games Friday and 3 Sunday where a some had 4 games on Saturday. That fourth game in a series of four in 90 degree heat can't be good for anyone. I guess I expect too much? Do any teams play 4 games in a day in college? Great competition for 16U!

Our girls played 6 games yesterday, and you have to remember they are timed, not 7 innings.

Despite the lopsided scores, I would think that the teams that played Purple or Red would benefit from playing that caliber of team strictly from the standpoint of knowing where they stand as players and as a team. They can observe the speed, power, etc and see what they need to do to get to that top level. Doesn't everyone want to know where they stand? I have always seen Laser Nation as a great warmup tournament to kick off the summer. A way to gel as a team, to evaluate pitchers, etc. Who can argue with 7gg? and a maximum of 12? Few tournaments can offer that kind of volume and with that comes some uneven matchups, some weaker competition, etc. No tourney is perfect, some fields stink, some umps are clueless, but laser nation has always been one of my favorite tournaments.

Ohio Thunder '01 greatly enjoyed the tourney as well as the level of competition. All of our games started on time and umpires were in general, very good. Thanks Lasers!

I'd like to say thanks for having a porta-john truck pretty much on standby. It's the cleanest I've seen them in the 4 years playing at Berliner. All the moms and girls really appreciated them being clean all weekend.

All the girls and the coaches can do is play who is paired with them. Can't blame the coaches or players.

Great tournament Jeff!
As usual, solid competition. Weather was great too. Liked being locked into same field for pool, made it nice to set up camp.
We played 9 games and had a blast!

Overall a great tournament. The fields were well maintained and the schedule was good. One big safety concern. Unfortunately we had to play at 8:00 Sunday morning. As we came down 315 to get off the interstate there were cars backed up to the I71 merge. They were at a standstill and that created a danger. There were cars zipping by and others sitting still. The light at the bottom of the ramp was letting 5 or so cars through at a time. A few policemen at the end of the ramp getting traffic off the interstate would have significantly lowered the risk. Maybe the one sitting at the park entrance making sure everyone turned to pay could have been diverted.
