Don't know much about 12u specifically for this year, however,
If it is about "trying out"? - go for it, you never know what you will find, or how dd will respond. The biggest downside, IMHO, is to regret that you did NOT go for it at some point down the road, if it is interesting to you now. There is learning to be accomplished just from that experience by itself! Whether it is a good fit or not for your family specifically (travel, costs, training, competition, focus/pressure, egos) is a whole different complex matter to be pondered by an individual family. We really enjoyed our brief time and experiences with the Lasers - it was goal oriented, eye opening, challenging, growth oriented, and confidence building. We had fun, we had success, we have nice memories. No regrets about joining, and no regrets about leaving when it was time - FWIW.
If it is about "competing" with them? - they will almost assuredly be very athletic, well trained, well coached, advanced in skills & strategy, aggressive, and focused - they show up to "get down to business". Also, can't imagine that any Laser team wouldn't have a top pitcher or 2 (or 3). Bring the A game, they will rarely hand you a game, you will have to "take" it.
There are
PLENTY of other teams/Org's out there in Ohio in all of the age groups that provide similar attributes & opportunities as do the Lasers though (don't want to use names). However, the Laser "brand" usually assures most of those attributes exist in their individual teams (usually). JMHO ....
