Some time ago, somebody shared a beautiful story about the "last day on the bucket" with his daughter. It was a well written, very emotional story explaining how the daughter instinctively knew this was going to be an emotional day for the Dad as she offered one last pitching workout with Dad before she headed off to college.
And then he hung up his bucket. (Tears are already welling up).

Does anybody have that saved & can you re-post for all of us to enjoy?

Chris ... lots of emotional moments for me ... but the most were her last day of high school ball and last day of college ball, and when she broke her college record for career wins. Whenever it was that I hung up the bucket, I can't remember when that was ... but I should ...

Life does go on, but there's definitely something missing ...

Sitting on a bucket, that's what I do. From the time she was a little girl, trying to help her dream come true. Sitting on a bucket for hours on end catching pitch after pitch all our free time we would spend. As her dream comes true and her life is exciting and new there will I be she will have no more time for me. I will long to tell her if she only knew sitting on a bucket was not only for you. The back yard will be bare ,in my heart I'll be wishing you were there. Her slinging that ball me catching them all. Please Lord give me one more day, my little girl and me. Sitting on a bucket.

I hope this is what you were looking for. I can't find who wrote this or when, but it sure breaks my heart every time I read it.

There's another way to look at this, much more positive you know. While I miss the days where I am catching her pitches, the importance of that pales in comparison to continuing to be "on the bucket" for her as her life has continued. Going to every single one of her college games, helping pay for college and moving her in to her new places while in and since she's got out of school, being there for financially as she tries to make ends meet being a teacher in a charter school, being there emotionally for her when her mother no longer was, walking her down the aisle back in June, and someday in the future helping watch her children/my grandchildren. And I know that this relationship had its foundations from those days when she was playing softball and I was sitting on that bucket. The cup is half full ...
