That's good. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. Much more important, hopefully it's someone who is not connected in any manner with slow pitch and someone who has heard of the Ohio Ice, Lasers, Maddogs, SGS Magic, Stingrays, Danger, all the various Heat teams, Classics, etc, etc, etc.

It is extremely disappointing to hear that ASA in Ohio is alot like ASA of Pa. ?Although it seem to be better if that makes anyone feel any better.
Until last year, I had never met or communicated with the Pa Youth Director, and even she could not guide me to "youth Girls PA fastpitch tournaments" in PA. ?She seemed surprised that there wasn't too many. ?There are very and I do mean very few ASA tournaments for fastpitch. ?Several of which I have attended in the past were not very well run. ?Don't get me wrong, there are a few that are WELL run. Pgh. Power holds one each year in July, but it usually conflicts with other big tournaments. ?Rage typically holds one as well but lacks the maintainence throughout the tournament, but I don't recall if either are sanctioned "qualifiers".
Almost all the ASA tournaments I have taken my teams to have been in Ohio or New York with Stingrays, Sluggerfest, GAPPS and Aunt Rosies. ?(daughters teams attended Compuware as well).
I have to agree, ASA in the North East seems to care and put their concentration on that other game "slowpitch" unlike the West Coast area that has always dominated. (but I think we're all getting closer).
Coaches do alot of REPEAT attendance if tournaments that were well run and competition is top level. ?When tournaments start messing with date changes, it kindof makes it more difficult than it should be for everyone. ?We like to plan our season well in advance, as should be noted by TD starting registrations earlier each year, and still fill them up quickly. ?This helps the parents vacation time planning as well.
It's a shame when "top tourneys" overlap and you have to choose only one. Especially when there are so few to pick from!!!

I just checked ASA's website and it appears that Ohio already has a JO Commissioner. His name is John Farley and he's from Perrysburg. Anyone know him or ever seen him at a fastpitch tournament? Any of you ASA TDs ever had any contact with him?

Joe,

Is this Chris Farley's brother? Maybe he's a funny guy. ;D ;D ;D.....and no, I have never heard of him or from him. Not very encouraging

Folks, let me tell you something. If you think ASA in Ohio needs attention come to Fla. There are NO ASA tourneys here. There is an organization here called ISA that is TOTALLY fastpitch friendly. They meet with us and run tons of tourneys. NSA is a small player as well. ASA here is all slowpitch - which by the way is HHUUGGEE!!!

Rays,

Couldnt agree more about ISA. We actually went down two years ago to their World Series in Florence SC and had a great time. It was actually a pretty high quality of softball down there also.

I loved their "base bandit". It was a neat feature and it allowed you to keep a girl on the "bench" but still get her in the game quite a bit.

Spoke to the Ohio ASA Commissioner last night and was told that the date for the 2006 Regional tournament would not be changed. I was told that the tournament would be held July 7-9.

ok, now I am confused. Is the Regional tournament mentioned above the state tournament? This is really crazy.

The ASA state tournament in actually is a regional tournament.
Bottom line - SAME TOURNAMENT

Just passing on what I was told by the Ohio ASA Commissioner.

Hookslide is correct. Of course, that tournament has been the third weekend in July in the past, which will conflict with Stingrays this year.

Those of you that know me know I think the world of John, Lisa and Kim...but why would one tourney exempt teams from the requirement of playing in the State tourney if you were going to the Nationals? I bet a lot of NSA events would like to have that carrot to dangle to teams.

Every time I have been to NSA nationals there have been Ohio teams in attendance that did not play at the State tournament. Whether they got there by playing in the Brookpark tourney or some other fashion, I have no idea.

If the requirement is you have to play in the state tourney to play in nationals then that should be enforced.
