Does anyone have a pdf copy of the 2004 rules for NSA? I found the 2010 rules online but I can not find the 2004 rules.

Before you ask, it's a "B" tournament, last one of the year thank God, stating they will be using '04 NSA rules for the 10's.

Thanks guys and gals. :)

I was sure I had a 2004 NSA rule book around here somewhere, but can't seem to find it. That must have been back when they had the special 10U baserunning rules (no dropped third strikes, can't steal home, can only steal one base at a time...probably others I can't remember).

Why would a tournament expect folks in 2010 to have six year old rule books lying around? Especially when you're playing 10U. Those kids would have been four years old back then and probably not playing NSA softball!

For something like that, where you wouldn't expect the teams to have ready access to those old rules, you would think that the tournament would distribute copies to all teams. Why not get everybody on the same page and cut down on the inevitable confusion?

And what about the umpires? What is the chance that they will remember every requirement in an entire section of the rule book from six years ago?

Tell me about it. I hate these modified rules. I can't wait until next year so we can play with real rules. I emailed the TD and she said they are looking for a copy to have on hand. :(

The way you explain it is probably what they are shooting for. I know it's a B tourny, but heaven forbid we step out of 2004.

Can you contact the TD to ask for a bullet list on what specific 2004 rules are relevant? If not, maybe they could create one.

I did to that. The lady running it seems nice. She responds to all my email quickly. She said she is looking to put something out to the teams going over the differences. I'm sure it is something along the lines of what Bretman mentioned. I was hoping it wasn't though. ;&

Found my 2004 NSA rule book! :)

Apparently, batters may advance on a dropped third strike, just like any other age group (I think it was ASA that used to prevent this in their 10U rules).

The 10U baserunning rules relate mainly to stealing.

- Runners starting on first or second base may steal only one base per pitch, even if the ball is overthrown in an attempt to put out the stealing runner. However, if the throw goes out of play the normal two-base award would be given.

- Runners starting on third may not steal home.

- A runner attempting to advance beyond the one allowable base is subject to being tagged out. If the runner safely reaches the next base, at the end of the play the runner is returned back to the correct base without penalty.

- A batter receiving a base on balls may attempt to continue and steal second base.

- Runners may only score on: A batted ball; A walk or hit batter with the bases loaded; Awarded bases when the ball goes out of play; An illegal pitch.

Hope that helps!
