Lady Leopards knock off previously undefeated North Canton at Louisville.

Flanigan went the distance for Louisville, helped her own cause with a couple hits.

Great win Lady Leopards!

Great game to watch - proud of them Leps! ... Hoover rallied and pressed in the 7th as you knew a team of thier stature would, but Lsvl hung tough and Flanigan closed the door.

Louisville threatened to cut it loose offensively in a few innings, but just couldnt quite break it open ... Hoover CF'er made a hi-light diving catch in one inning that squelched a threat - great play by that young lady!

Play of the Day has to go to Lady Leopards' Desi Givens at short - 7th inning, diving flat-out stop of a grounder up the middle, and from her knees threw out the NC runner for the 2nd out of the inning.

No doubt ... that play had all the necessary ingredients of being The Play - huge pressure, crucial moment, rally momentum busting, all out effort, laser throw.

That was probably the best game I've seen so far this year, and the hype was everything it turned out to be and yes the short stop for Louisville made an unbelievable stop and throw from her knees. It was just a great defensive game.

Good game for sure. Not sure I agree "great defensive game".

While there was some impressive plays (Hoover CF diving catch, L'ville SS play from knees) Hoover had 2 errors in the same inning L'ville scored their 3. Both teams also scored on balls to the backstop.

Both are good teams though and (as always) it will be interesting at the Massilon Districit

SPEAKING of the great diving catch made by the NC outfielder - was it a good catch? The ball is briefly in her glove as she falls to the ground, but the ball can be seen jostling loose and coming out on this video. Whether she maintained control long enough to say it's a good catch is up to the umpire, but judge for yourself. Maybe it is a good catch, but it's interesting to take another look at it either way. Louisville would have scored 2 more runs if it was called a no-catch.

This was a 'high energy' game and tensions were high. Players from both teams know each other from travel ball. One player said she counted about 9 girls who were former Slammers players on the field for this game.

Great Shot of it! Way better than the angle I had. I guess the argument is that it slid across her glove the whole time...But softballs are huge and that slid pretty far...

I believe the comment on an illusion was in reference to the fence looking really short, and not whether the ball hit the ground.

I watched the video of the "catch" and after pausing it, I was able to drag the marker slowly back and forth to simulate slow motion. It appears the ball came free and the fielder used her hand to put it back in the glove. It was a great effort and I cannot fault the umpire for ruling it a catch as that person only had one look at the play as it happened.

Correct: I was referring only to the illusion of the fence seeming so close, although it is shorter down the right field line.

and also correct: in real time, it would be hard for the ump to determine whether a 'clean' catch was made - I also believe it's not a catch.

If you look where the base ump is (at the end of the clip he can be seen), he wouldn't have the view I did; but the homeplate ump backed him up - he had a better view but from further away.

Its 190 down the lines and 200 dead center

I've seen a homerun go over the right field fence and across the street into the middle school property by a Lady Lep a couple years ago.

So what's the average for left, center and right field in high school softball?

I think it's something like as much as 220 feet or more to dead center at some fields . . . hafta look it up.

google . . .

EDIT; couple links —

So Louisville probably is on the short end of high school field sizes; curious now about the dimensions of some other area softball fields.

Love the Leopard cam... Wish our school had something like that. NICE! Great to see loads of of Ex Slammers, Lasers, and Intensity all over the field. Looked like an all star game. Were tickets sold? lol

After watching the video twice it dawned on me that the Canton Coach called for the bunt with runners on base (TWICE) with one of the best natural hitters in the country at the plate. I know some play by the book, but man what a waste of potential as I'm sure the numbers would show the odds of extra bases may have been even better. Hmmmm.. Got to love HS Ball. I'm sure Leopard Nation was really pleased #5 didn't get to swing the bat. Oh well.. I'll go back to being a fan, but wow.
