I've also seen CF @ 200' while watching televised college games, but I dont remember seeing a college CF be marked less than 200 - I would imagine it's safe to say 200 is within college regulation.

Thats ridiculous!! What a bunch of goofs to turn down an offer to move them to decent distances.

The fences at the West Branch field we played at Thursday night were crazy deep also - probably similar to your HS distances. While we we walking out, a West Branch fella said it will be his personal mission to get the fences there moved up for next season.

Couple observations...

1) I believe Louisville won, yet their faithful seem to want to discuss the catch / non-catch more than the victory.

2) A person that seems to be unfamiliar with North Canton (not Canton) softball appears to be questioning the decision making of Hoover's coach (who is quite sucessful and has been around his share of big games) regarding having #5 (a lefty, slapper with great speed) bunt. Not sure of the situation but, if familiar at all with North Canton Hoover softball or #5, that's what she does best.

Yeah, I agree, I'm removed and playing percentages was the right thing to do there. BUT...... someone should probably let the HS Coach know hes got the keys to a Ferrari and he's driving it 35mph in the right lane. I wouldn't have the restraint to play percentages with that kid with runners on base. To each their own. It's the Hero or Goat syndrome if the kid doesn't deliver, but I would always bet on her delivering. It's been fun to watch for three years.

Field Dimension guidelines from NFHS Rule Book:

ART. 3 . . . Recommended field distances are designated as follows:

a. From home plate to the nearest obstruction on fair ground may uniformly
range from:

1. 185 feet-235 feet for female or male fast pitch

2. 250 feet-275 feet for female slow pitch

3. 275 feet-300 feet for male slow pitch

b. From the top of the outfield fence to the ground should be 6 feet to 8 feet

c. Outside (foul ground) the foul lines and between home plate and the backstop - an unobstructed area with a distance of 25 feet to 30 feet

d. On-deck circles shall be a safe distance from home plate with a recommended
distance of 30 feet, if space allows.

e. The width of all chalk lines is recommended at 2 1/2 inches.

f. Foul lines extend from the batter's boxes, beyond the bases, to the outfield fence. When an outfield fence is not present, foul lines should extend to a minimum of 185 feet.

The eternal struggle - pitchers' parents want fences deep and hitters' parents want them shallow. Cie la vie.

"Louisville" folks had really moved on, whether or not the catch was made didn't determine the outcome of the game; I got a videoclip (with permission) from the Louisville Herald that shows a catch may have not been a catch - it wasn't at that point really about Louisville vs North Canton at all. It was posted as one of those "you make the call" examples.

Thanks to those who posted info on field distances.

Oh, and Louisville took two from Perry today in a double header.

I guess I could be classified as one of the "Louisville faithful", and if I'm not mistaken, was one of the first to give the Hoover CF'er kudos for an all out effort play ... I was personally standing at the right field fence when she made the play, and though it stunk for Lsvl, thought it was a great catch in real time.

Such a bang bang close call was controversial at the time, especially considering Lsvl was again threatening to bust the game open ... but here, I really dont see anyone failing to "get over it", but really just discussing a great video shot showing just how close the play was.

I heard ya, but dang 250/300/270??? ... that's no where near being a fair compromise!

And Hoover has a 1st class ball club; that was never an issue.

The video wasn't about Louisville vs Hoover and someone being 'ripped off' and it costing the game.

Either was it when the home plate ump called a Louisville girl out on strike three when it was only strike two . . . OK, I'll stop.

DD pitches and has hit a few HR's herself. I like our home field fence that is at 200 ft. and stands 6 ft. tall.

the fences are the same distance for both teams playing the game. there is no advantage. If not mistaken. they have been this distance since the field was built. that was when the game was all small ball.

I never really saw why it was taken that way by some ... I thought it was presented in no disrespect to anybody.

Dont get me started ... :D

Considering she has only been slapping / swinging the bat from the left side for about a season and a half, (and I believe he was the one that talked her into it mid-season last year), I think it was likely a no brainer to him. Not sure if she even hit from the left side during summer ball last year. Also, Flanigan was throwing very well for the Leps.

Don't get me wrong - she has definitely quickly become proficient from the left side and is a threat with her speed every time she puts it in play, but slapping in front of the runners is not what I'd do it that situation either....

I am pretty sure he knows what horses he has in the stable as good, or better than anyone. I will agree though, in the games I've seen, he is a fairly conservative coach.

No biggie....
