Well there is not to many tournaments going on during the week days, and we also do friendly’s with other tournament teams whenever we can. Our girls get to play in on average 45 games a year minimum. The more we win on Sundays the more games they get to play. This year we are doing 7 tournaments with a guarantee of 31 games (one tourney is a 7gg) plus 16 games for the Emerald Necklace that’s 47 games Guaranteed for $385.00 per player, no other cost to the player. I know of a few tournament teams for $750.00 per player plus additional practice fee money per player, they get to play in only 6 tournaments which gives them only a guarantee of 24 games.

Half the cost and twice as many games for our girls, not bad for the cash strapped society we have. Will we ever be an equal to the Lady Lasers, no, we only draw girls from less than 1/4 of the state, as opposed to the Laser Nation that draws from all of Ohio, and 1/2 of West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana.
But we are doing the most we can and the best we can for the lowest cost we can for the girls.

PS.
I think this year , some of our teams will turn heads and get noticed.

I would love to get a Travel league in the Emerald Necklace League. But there are some issues with that. As an example: teams must have a home field to use for games, be able to play at 6:30 on the week days. And be located within a reasonable distance to each other. Also league play is not cheap about $400 to join the league, $70.00 for game balls, and about $900.00 for umpire fees. Third, Head coach or team coach must make league meetings, about 6 of them a year.

If we could get 6 teams in a age division to move forward with this idea, I will present it to the league. There is 10u, 12u, 14u then 18jv and 18varsity. If there is any team interested for this for next season, as its to late for this year, let me know and how far you are form the Parma Area as we are about in the center of the league.

My 10U refused to play rec this year. Last year was her first year pitching. In rec, she struck out like 55 girls in 30 innings pitched and gave up 12 runs. In travel, she gave up a ton of runs and had like 23 k's in about 20 innings of work. The numbers are not completely accurate (don't have the books on me), but real close. She wants the challenge. She wants someone to hit her 75 mph fastball (no she doesn't throw that hard, major exageration). That way, she can try to pitch 80 against that girl in another tourney. She doesn't feel she can get that in rec.

Good time for her to work on her changeup and locations. She has the chance to throw 75% changeups in rec and master the pitch. Not so in a travel game. There is something good to be learned.

My college kid played OGSO last year, mainly because she liked the team. Worked on her screwbal in game situations and it helped a lot for this season.

The Emerald Necklace league is not a rec. league. It would be considered like all-star travel as each city has the best from their city, with many players playing on tournament teams on the weekend. There are also at least three different levels at each age group. Maybe your DD was in a C or D level, which can be very much like rec. ball, but I don't care what age group you are playing, if your DD is on an A or B team, it is certainly NOT rec. ball.

I'm sure there are some very good coaches in the Emerald Necklace. Parma is a good example. However in our city, it was a daddy ball. Couldn't get my daughter out of there quick enough. I'm certainly not against her playing Emerald Necklace again for the extra playing time but it would have to be the right situation and the coach would have to understand her tourney team has priority.

My 7 year old plays 8U rec ball and 10U travel ball. I am not a fan of rec, but she is young enough that she just needs the repititions. My 11 year old refuses to play rec (thank God!!!). Travel ball comes first though.

Just a little advise. If I had a 7 yr old daughter who played 10u travel ball then if she were going to play rec at all, I would have her in 12u rec ball. JMHO:D

Our rec league does not allow Travel team players to play. More of a safety factor to those who play in the leagues from getting hurt while they are learning the game themselves by the travel girls hitting with the composite bats and knowing how to use them.

I would love to move her up, but they won't let her. The league's rules, not mine!!

In 2011, there is going to be such a league in Barberton. I was talking to the guy the other day and he was telling me about it. Actually, I'll see him at 7:30 a,m. in Massillon at the State ASA Umpires Clinic in the morning

That really stinks. That's the same reason why my dd coulodn't get any better. There was limitations placed on the players who may be tremendous atlethese in softball thus hurting their development. My 10U dd could play with the 12U team, but with practices with her tournamemt team during the week, she would miss alot of games. I will not put any money into something I know she will miss alot of, unless it enhances her development (and in that case we will not miss).

We actually followed our rec league coach right into travel ball and have never looked back. He was our dd's coach when she was 8. After that season he got moving into travel ball and it has been awesome. She is now in her 3rd year with him playing 11u. It has been such an eye opener. The comptetition is just unbelievable. Seeing these 9, 10 ,11 year old playing at such a high level is just amazing. I never thought we could get that type of competition at such a young age. I only wished I could have played like this when I was younger. (actually alot younger). By the time our 3 year old gets ready to play (hopefully next year) it will be even greater.
