My baby went to homecoming

My youngest daughter went to homecoming a couple weeks ago. This wasn't my first to attend but it was the toughest to watch. My oldest daughter (12 years older than the youngest) was a cheerleader, very outgoing and boy crazy from the time she could walk. My baby who just attended her first homecoming is more of the daddy's girl, tom boy type. I think this is the first time I've ever seen her in a dress and heels and oh my gosh----carrying a purse! Yuk! My son was laughing his tail off at my pain!

It was tough as I watched this beautiful young lady stumble into the room. She was standing close to 5'10" with the heels and every step was a challenge for her. I don't know how many of you remember Flip Wilson and his character Geraldine" but thats who my DD reminded me of. She would stumble and the purse would flip above her head. I felt really funny asking her if she shaved under her arms and washed her feet! LOL!

Well, she practiced the walk for days and then the big day arrived. I was told I had to go to this beasts house who was going to take my baby away. The scoundrel didn't even have facial hair. What a wuss! After some thought, I realized this is the kind of date I want my baby to go to homecoming with. I am in the school with these kids every day and the thought of pushing him down the steps crossed my mind many times.

I made it through all of the pictures with my fake smile and then the question arose, "which family will pick the kids up when its over at midnight." I quickly stepped up and volunteered since I knew I would be at the school at 10:30. I went early and tried to walk by the principal, who is also my boss, but I didn't make it. "Whats up Gregg, a little early aren't you."

Thinking quickly, "I was watching the football game and lost track of time. I'll just leave and I'll pick her up later." ahhggg---BUSTED! I went home and waited until midnight. When I arrived back at the school, my baby came running out barefooted, her $65 hair style was hanging down and the 7 inch scare where she boke her leg sliding into second was visible.

"I had the best time daddy. I can't wait until the next dance."

My worst nightmare had come true. Daddy's little girl is growing up!:(

Been there..

I have a picture of Natalie and her team mates on her h.s. team at prom all showing off their bruises and scrapes while in their dresses. Enjoy it before they grow up.

I don't know what will happen to me when that day arrives. The only peace I have is knowing my dd can whip most of her male classmates. And we have'nt even started lifting seriously yet. She's alot like her old man, soft on the outside but don't push it--long fuse but a large explosion follows. MD

Gregg,
You're worse than Charlie! Ami went to her first H.S. dance too, with hair all curled and high heels (which came off as soon as she hit the dance floor). Didn't have to worry about the "boy" issue, since they all went as a group...

man, mine is 16 and gorgeous (well, all our DD's our, so no gloating)..shes going to homecoming with a group of girls in 2 weeks..i guess the "right" guy hasnt come along, although i told her in the car, all age groups that end in "teen" or start with "twenty" are off limits..kinda narrows the field

Yeah, my youngest just had her first "real" date, to homecoming also. Went last year to the winter formal, but with a group of girls. Not this time, with a "boy" this time - but luckily a really good kid from what I am told. At least she was playing softball during the early part of the day though.

It is very tough to see them mature right before your eyes .... especially the baby daughter.

#01 went to her first one too. 4" heels that I know I couldn't have walked in. Luckily she went with a group of girls. Never would have thought the tomboy would ever wear a dress like that and heels. I have no doubt that with her ankle, those shoes came off when she hit the door.

I just experienced this also....but mine was my first born...my oldest....I was in shock when she asked me to take her to get her nails done! I was in shock...I said do you realize you have 3 games in the morning...before the dance???? I was very concerned about her playing ability with them but it didn't seem to affect her....This is my girl who wears 4 different socks and orange sliders under her vegas gold/black uniform...funky miss mismatch....all put together and matching....with curls and rhinstones...wow. She did go with a date but we weren't real concerned....1. He is an awesome kid from what I can tell.
2. He broke his collar bone in the fb game that morning...ouch
So he wasn't moving too well.
3. My b-i-l threatened to make his left arm look like his right if he wasn't a gentlemen...lol.

it's amazing sometimes to see the girls out fo their "element" so to speak, not wearing sliding shorts or hair pulled back, sweaty and dirty...of course, come dances or "going out" they are knockouts...they are truly a blessing to us all, if the boys only knew how much they would have more respect..but anyways, kudos to all the parents watching their DD's grow up, it's hard for me, I feel like I've had my oldest for such a short time with us adopting her as a teenager. Her life is already busy and exciting and we cherish the times we do get to spend with her..it will break me up sending her to college..then to do it all over again for the little one..we call her the "monster"...I'll probably be a blubbering idiot dropping them off at college, seeing them married, kids of their own...

I found it quite amusing to see the still present tan line from softball socks and sliders on my daughter. I felt really short standing next to my kid with heels on. All this time I claimed to be 6'2, guess not.

Hey Edge,

My daughter also went to her first homecoming this weekend. I watched her prepare for the past month for this big day. As I fretted every minute of it. Wondering how I was going to feel when that Sat. night came. She got her dress, got her hair and nails done, picked out jewlery as I chewed my nails down into the quick.

The big day arrived as I was hustling back from my youngest daughters practice so I could see her. She turned out to be absolutely gorgeous to increase my anxiety until she told me that she wore her softball sliding shorts under her dress! Her group of softball friends even HAD to have their softball bats when they took pictures! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I guess I shouldn't have worried too awful much as pretty as she was she was still thinking softball! All went well she had a great time and I'm very proud of her.

Parents, don't let that GROUP thing give you false security.

Some of the girls & boys that are interested in the other sex tend to use this skeem to their advantage. I would still ask for timeline, who's driving, who's picking up, and validate with checkin points and lay out extremely detailed do's and don'ts Large Groups will always have an idiot or two that always want to push the boundries. DD needs to have the plan, support, and limitations clearly laid out, so when peer pressure occurs she has no surprise but an expectation that it will happen and then feel comfortable not following because she's already thought about it and has plan a, plan b, and plan c for the expected and unexpected.

Seen lots of good girls & boys go down hard on Home Coming or Prom because they went with the flow. To the point of getting kicked off school teams for drinking or other, pregnancy, car accidents........ Many more risks then benefits, but it is a part of growing up and our job is to insure they are educated and ready for this event for all the great and possibly terrible moments that may occur.

Mine is a Senior this year and up for homecoming queen, we'll find out friday night after I walk her across the field before the game. I to had awkward feelings when she entered HS and was dressing more like a young lady then a softball player. This coming friday is really going to be a time I cherish with her win or lose. I am really trying to take in everything I can this year during her "Farewell Tour." It really goes by to quickly.

Hope she wins. That is neat. My Freshman went and I know the wife must have taken an hour of pictures. The tan lines were funny from softball. The 4 inch heels sure looked funny, but she had to take a special picture with her bat for someone! I bet he gets a chuckle when she sends it. Her other high school coach was teasing her how she planned on kicking a Sokker ball with those shoes on!

My frosh DD, 2nd oldest, went Saturday night, we rushed home from the Fall Frenzy and she ran around the house getting ready after a quick shower to get all the dirt and sweat off. She also went with a group of girls. It IS amazing how different they look all gussey-ed up, hair down and sock-less...I am lucky though, while the 16 & 14 y/o's are growing up needing me less and less, I have the 3 y/o & 4 m/o tugging at me because they need me more and more...:cap:
