I'm sure by now everyone has seen the section above, we were going to give members a chance to get a free TheSoftballZone T-Shirt for just sharing softball related topics. After one week I figure we would see at least someone taken part in getting a shirt.

Like this thread says what went wrong?

1.) Was we asking people to write to many Threads?
2.) Was its to many words?
3.) Did we need more categories?
4.) Or a combination of all the above?

Surely its not because everyone needs a size 4XL..

Well Ricky, I think most people don't want to go through the effort of posting a well thought-out piece and then having people who hide behind a username throw trash and garbage at them.

This forum does have members who post true, honest, and thoughtful topics. I, myself, post knowing that what I wrote is truthful and non-insulting but with today's culture, there are many people who hide behind a username and just hate on anyone.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I've received lots of feedback from new members as well as non-posting members, they all say the number one reason they don't want to post is because of the bashing that goes on if you say something others don't agree with.

So I'm sure that one reason

I could see the bashing being a big reason to avoid posting. It's not even just people who don't use their real names. There are users on here who use their real names yet feel perfectly comfortable attacking people's intelligence. As if signing your real name to it automatically validates what you say.

Could be too, that a lot of people don't want to put themselves out there as "an expert" by creating a thread because they're kind of modest. Maybe they want to avoid feeling like they're grandstanding. It's one thing to participate and contribute to existing threads and another to decide your own opinion is worthy of a thread start? Just thinking out loud.

I too have heard that many people don't want to get bashed ... and I certainly see it happen sometimes, but I don't think bashing is as prevalent as it once was here, and I absolutely believe that can be avoided if you word things in such a way that you don't open yourself up to it. I have been one of the most frequent posters of the site over the last several years, and I'm certainly no expert on anything, but I can count on one hand the number of times I feel like I have been bashed on here in the last 13 years since I've been on the site. How have I been so "lucky"?

First of all, consider showing your name ... if you hide behind a screen name, you can give some people a reason to think you have some underlying intention. I'm not saying that everyone should use their real name if they're not comfortable in doing so, but it does factor in. Secondly, avoid fishing for compliments for your DD or the teams you coach or your DD plays on. Most of the bashing I have seen comes when people are suspicious you might be doing that. Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, try not to express your views in a way that suggests you know everything or that others don't know anything. Just like in our day to day conversations, if you go around being arrogant and/or attacking other people, you're much more likely to get attacked back. I personally also don't state everything as a fact, but will say in my opinion/in my experience/in my observation or something like that. Finally, if you do post a lot, you will earn some credibility and trust. Most of the ones I've seen get attacked are anonymous, have posts in the single digits, and act like they know everything. If you follow those kinds of guidelines, I think you'll find this site very welcoming and helpful. Just my opinion ... :)

Lack of time on my part- plus I don't think I have that many interesting things to write.
