High School and travel coaches will want to get familiar with the new NCAA rule that went into affect immediately for Division I. College coaches are not permitted to make offers or have recruiting contact or recruiting conversations with athletes until September 1st of an athlete's junior year. Athletes can still go to camps and clinics, attend games, and have campus tours.

These links offer more information about the new rules. The NCAA will have to better define what can and cannot happen. One of the things HS and travel coaches need to be aware of is, D1 college coaches cannot go through you to make scholarship offers prior to Sept 1 of an athlete's junior year.

The NCAA still has work to do on how to enforce it however it should slow the early offers down. I think there will still be coaches and kids who find a way to make hush hush back room deals. Figuring out how to enforce it will be interesting.

D1 coaches will still be working camps and going to watch 14U and 16U kids play as they want to been seen at their games and they want to make educated decisions about the kids they do ultimately make offers to. What you will see is D1 coaches who are all interested in the same kid following that kid around their freshman and sophomore year. The best in the country will get stalked now instead of being baby sat.

The recruiting wars will still go on for the highly skilled athletes. Kids will still feel pressure to perform but they will not have the pressure of making a decision until they are more mature, educated, and equipped to make the decision. The athlete just won't know who remains interested in them until Sept 1 of their junior year until the phone rings.

If you think this is going to stop a dirt bag parents and travel ball coaches from doing everything in their power to set kids up to fail you're insane.

Hey,,,

If you are a college coach who wasted a minute of your life to get a 10 year old who looked real good against other 10 year olds to "commit" you are a **** sack who should probably just go ahead and open up a vein.

No one will miss you.

Likewise, if you are a parent who wasted a minute of your life to get a 10 year old who looked real good against other 10 year olds to "commit" you are a **** sack who should probably just go ahead and open up a vein.

No one will miss you either.

You are the reason I read an article or two a month about the "college transfer epidemic."

Yap. It disproportionately effects white kids, therefore it's referred to as an "epidemic."

You, personally in a lot of cases, set those kids up for failure.

You built that.

Congrats.

Saw this on another site. Florida is trying to beat the new rule, they just got their 2nd commit from the 2024 class.

Lyla lamar, daughter of duke head coach marissa young and james lamar announced that she has verbally committed to the university of florida. The 2024 infielder is now the second sixth grader to commit to the gators following the ncaa di council vote to move the prospect contact date to sept. 1 of an athlete’s junior year (effective april 25, 2018). Lamar joins the 2024 gator recruiting class with alexia carasquil.

Way to go Florida , recruiting 12 and 13 year olds

I love this new rule. Just simply because I don't have to see the posts about 7th graders verballing.

This past weekend on Saturday, my dd's team played in Indy, against that Bandits team with the 7th grade, 2023 pitcher who verballed to Florida Gators. My dd and I didn't get there until Sunday, but I heard that Bandits pitcher was a very dominating, hard thrower, she lived up to all the hype. I'm sure the recruiting coaches at Florida and other colleges know what they are doing, but I think if the player is good enough to verbal in 7th grade, why not wait until they are older? IMHO, it benefits the players.

You find any person that can accurately predict what a 6th grade girl (or boy) wants to do in 6+ years, have them start making stock picks and lottery numbers for you.

And always remember that a verbal commitment is not legally binding to either party.

I saw something where the young lady who pitched for the UofM this year was a top 3 finalist for.... something.

I think she should be named the poster child for the reason why NCAA coaches aren't allowed to talk to 9 year olds and/or their parents anymore.

Congrats young lady.

They set you up to fail because you blew it past other 12 year olds.

Enjoy the ride.

Hey, at least it's on their dime.
