I say all tiebreaker is the coach that can run the bases the most times their team wins. :)

I guess I will throw my 2 cents in.

I am not a big fan of the NSA tiebreaker rule however it does not hurt as bad because our coach- coached to the rule. My DD's team placed 2nd over the weekend. He purposefuly would try to get kids over to third in order to play by those rules. Some of those chances he took he would have never have taken in a normal game.

But that brings up another thing what is a normal game? When my DD started playing travel 4 years ago I had real problem trying to understand timed games. I'm from old school where you play to the death- or who ever scores the most in 6,7 or 9 innings.

Oh BTW this same tiebreaker was used last year at the Stingrays Tournament. That was my first time I was introduced to that rule and again was blown away by it.

My bigest problem was the lack of man power and effort to help prepare the fields to play. The communication was also unacceptable.

Needless to say I am so sick of the rain.

BlueDevilDad, realize that the runners to third tiebreaker is used at the Stingray Tournament only in pool play, and not after a drop-dead time limit, but after both teams are allowed to complete the inning. In bracket play, the game is allowed to continue using the normal International Tie Breaker rules.

The runner to third tiebreaker has been used for years around Ohio as an easy to assess tie breaker in games where time constraints are important.

Coach Tam,

pool play is where it belongs...of course, this reminds me of texas high school football....during league games, there was no overtime, they went to the "penetration" rule....so a team entering the "red zone" more than the other was awarded with the win....of course in soccer, there is a shoot-out, but could you imagine in softball? every batter gets to hot off a tee, furthest ball wins... ;)

Statman, I'm not a huge fan of that tie-breaker, but we went to it a number of years ago, solely because of time. Now a number of years ago, we looked at going to an hour and fifty minute, no new inning, time limit, but as some people have said on another thread, that would have forced us to puch back the start time to Thursday. While that might eventually happen with the Stingray Tournament, I think moving to actual seven inning games in pool play and bracket play would be a great adjustment for the tournament. Yes, it might result in some games going a little long, and other games being pushed back, but I think if you let the coaches know that you are going to be playing full games, and that it could affect your start time, I think most would be ok with that.

2 weeks ago at asa states ---friday pool play games wiped out --rain. Saturday -sunday they played a true 7 inning , no time limit double elimination tourney. Even after they delayed sat am's start 2 hours for field prep . While i did'nt understand the delay for sat am, (fields were in great shape) being able to play 7 complete was a great feeling, you knew the better team was going to actually win, instead of a 50 min exhibit. Comminication was brisk and accurate. MD

MD you nailed it about communication. The TD himself made the calls. Ofcoarse it was ASA States for 10/12 only. Maybe N$A could learn something here.

My wife thinks the team that got more runners to third should be the losing team. Her reason is because you had more runners in scoring position and were unable to score more runs lol.

Aggggh Woman logic lol

How about giving the win to the team with the most original/spirited cheers? That would go over really well! ;D
