We are pleased to announce that the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting Camp is coming to Columbus again. Participation in this NFCA administered camp is an outstanding way to showcase softball talent to a large cross-section of college coaches. In a camp setting, coaches get to see lots of repetitions at the defensive position and double digit swings at the plate. It guarantees that coaches see athletes field, throw and hit, in case these opportunities don't present themselves in a game situation.

The 2012 NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting Camp is Thursday, July 5th at the Lou Berliner Athletic Complex, 325 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, OH 43223.

The Ohio Stingrays College Showcase immediately follows this camp on the morning of July 6th at Fred Beekman Park on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The NFCA camp application must be completed online between the dates of February 3 and June 5. Please go to http://www.nfca.org/camps/ to access and complete the application. Note: the application must be completed after February 3 on the NFCA site and not on the Ohio Stingrays site.

Registration is open to athletes of NFCA member coaches starting on February 3rd. Starting on February 15th, regsitration is open to all athletes.

In 2011, NFCA administered and endorsed camps together attracted more than 6,000 applicants and 1,000 college coaches from around the country. Don't miss this opportunity in 2012 to showcase your softball skills to the large population of college coaches who will be scouting this Camp. Coaches registered to recruit at the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays camp will be listed on the NFCA website by early June @ www.NFCA.org

The recruiting camp is divided into the following sessions:
Outfielders/Catchers: 8:15 a.m. - 11:10 a.m.
Pitchers: 11:10 a.m. - 2:05 p.m.
Infielders: 2:05 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Please submit your application based on the softball position to be showcased. All applicants will be contacted via e-mail by May 18 with information related to camp status. The payment deadline is June 18.

Additional information is located on the NFCA website as indicated above. The FAQ page provides answers to most of the commonly asked camp questions. Athletes do not have to be playing in the Ohio Stingrays Showcase to be able to participate in the NFCA camp.

Please remember that the NFCA/Ohio Stingrays Recruiting camp is administered by the NFCA, not the Ohio Stingrays Tournament staff.

Address all camp questions to Jamie Hazel by emailing jamie@nfca.org or calling 662-320-2155.

This is really great news. There are only a handful of NFCA administered recruiting camps in the country and we are very lucky that the Stingrays tournament has attracted the commitment of the NFCA to hold a camp just prior to the tournament commencement.

Note that your team does not have to be accepted into Stingrays for your DD to participate in the NFCA camp.

One of the many great things about the NFCA camp is that it provides facts such as base speed, POP times, and other items related to athletic ability and the college coaches know that these facts were developed by an independent expert fastpitch organization.

The dates on the site and here do not match. Site says Feb. 1....but also doesn't seem to work. You sure about the 2/3 date?

The NFCA folks are rolling out a new web site and that has pushed back the start of camp enrollment from yesterday the 1st to tomorrow the 3rd. The information here and on the Stingrays web site was updated to show the 3rd as the NFCA requested. I am not sure if the new NFCA web site is public just yet.

NFCA members should be receiving an e-mail with a "hidden" registration link later today that will allow them to start to register their athletes starting at 8 am tomorrow morning. Registration for the general softball public will open on the 15th. I will post the new link here when the NFCA says it is OK to use the new web site.

If your DD aspires to play in college and you have not signed her up for this camp, I would seriously urge you and your DD to get her application in ASAP. Although applications will be accepted through June 18, the NFCA is making decisions right now to accept certain applications and is "wait listing" those same players to a second session (e.g., an accepted pitcher who also plays infield may be accepted in the second wave to the infielding session). Therefore, the longer you wait to apply, the lower the chances of getting accepted.

I would also encourage players who are at the younger end of the eligible applicants to apply, as if a younger player is accepted it will be a great experience in dealing with the pressure of performing in front of college coaches during a limited time.

Remember, there are only a handful of these NFCA-Administered Recruiting Camps held across the country. Any stats that are recorded during the camp will be trusted by college coaches. We in Ohio need to support this camp towards the goal of it returning for several years to our state.

If at all possible, don't miss this opportunity for your daughter. And remember, your DD's team does not need to be playing in the Stingrays tournament to be eligible for selection to the camp.

That's a good question, I'll send it on to Hildred Deese of the NFCA and post when I get a reply.

Just heard back from Hildred: all applicants will be notified whether they have been accepted or not accepted.

It says on the website that applicants will be notified 5/24/12 by email. Does anyone know if there is any way to update an application with all of high school stats from this year. My DD is a freshman and now I have all kinds of stats to give them but didn't have them when she applied.

@softballmom009: I think that is a question for jamie@nfca.org . It's been my experience that the NFCA staff is excellent at providing prompt responses to email questions.

I noticed that there is a link on the NFCA website that lists all accepted applicants. My daughter is going... 2016 grad, Can anyone share their experiences on this camp? This is her first exposure to this... heard that it's best to get them started early...

Any insight is appreciated. Primary position is pitcher; secondary 1B. Thanks!!
