Congrats Lasers Green girls for taking 1st at NSA states this weekend beating Ice Silver Bristow two out of three times to take home the gold.

Congrats Buckeye Heat Gill for going 3-2 against a tough field with a heartbreaker to ice silver 5-4.. Great game, and kudos to Ice Silver pitcher # 11 she's pitched a tough game!! and I know she works hard!!

Buckeye Elite had a tough pitcher!! I seen some real leadership in her after tough loss to Heat.

On a side note, seen some mind boggling calls in laser ice game # 1 ump lost control. Dd don't play for either team but I still felt for both sets of girls..

And the beetles!!!! They were horrible!!!

The Lasers only beat the ice once this weekend. The first game in pool play was a forfeit - because of the storm the Ice had 7 families in a cabin 45 min. away from the field with no power or water. Trees were down and that 45 minutes turned into more than an hour and a half. They would have had to play a 7AM game and be at the field by 6AM, this was not a possibility. The Lasers won the next game 5-4 to put Ice in the losers bracket. Ice came back thru losers bracket to play Lasers in the first game of championship. Ice won 14-13 international tiebreaker. The next game was a rainout in the 3rd inning, Lasers were ahead but game was far from over when it was called. In my understanding first place was given to Lasers because of the initial forfeit, but in the NSA book it was listed as a co-championship. The games were very good and intense, but please get the facts straight. Not to take anything away from the Lasers they are a tough team with their new pitcher. Hope to see more good softball this weekend.

That would be my initial question? What new pitcher? When we saw them play they looked tough before there "new pitcher".

FYI, there were thousands without utilities, still thousands without them now. We were an hour away with no power and tree’s re routing us all over the place as well but we still showed up and played the next day. Girls up by at least 5am, field by 6am, playing at 7am that was the draw/schedule... We played 4 games Saturday and were back at park Sunday by 7am for 8am game time.

Is it right or fair that a team gets to decide when and who they play so they with no blemish on the record or claim it as a no contest when they forfeit?

If you have the chance to play a team and forfeit it equals a loss in the losing column. So you can’t say it’s not a loss. If the buckeyes don’t show up because there bus was late due to weather they still play the next day or forfeit. It’s the way the ball bounces. If you had the chance to play and didn’t regardless of the reason good or bad, it’s a loss. It counts.

Is it fair to the teams that pay the fees for certain # of games and don’t get them because one team decides not to get up that earlier the day before the game? My opinion is the TD should force the team to play or stay home if it's too rough to get there on time. I know at the Akron Summer Slam same team decided not to play / forfeit claiming again it wasn’t worth it at 8am and the TD forced them to play, or take an early exit from the tourney.

So you were right, my facts weren’t straight, Ice silver went 1-3 Vs. Laser Green in Central Ohio this past weekend. 1-0 forfeit loss, 5-4 loss bracket play, 14-13 win ITB, and 5-3 loss in 3 innings played. Lasers took home the first place trophy and were declared Champions. That is the facts. 1-3. All tight games. I stuck around to watch them. Both well coached teams with very good players. I have no horse in this race I'm just a parent, dd plays for a Laser rival just don’t care for cloudy post on OFC.

Terry is a great guy and amazing coach. I did look forward to my daughter working out for him and the Ice but since I was named the 10u Maddog coach she wont be joining the Ice. However, Terry and the Ice are a class act. Very good people and care about the kids. I dont know much about the Lasers program but the rule he stated is correct. I look forward to playing against both programs in the '13 NSA and ASA seasons. It will all be alot of fun and we will have some very good games together Im sure of it.

Since I am able to get online at my mother-in-laws for a minute, I wanted to clarify what was agreed upon when we were getting Scary Summer Storm 2012 version 2.0 on Sunday evening.

We were either in the bottom of the third or about to start the 4th when the lightning started and the officials pulled the girls off the field (I have the card but not sure as it may have blown away when the storm started). The NSA ruling on a game in progress is it is not an official game unless we have completed 5 innings or 4 1/2 if the home team is ahead at that point. So we do not have a completed game in progress. Our rulebook also has procedure on how to determine champions in case a tournament can not be completed which is if two teams are tied in the standings, then co-champions are declared. To decide which team would take home 1st place awards, I went to head-to-head which I thought was 1 win 1 loss apiece. One of my umpires reminded me that there was a game forfeited in pool play which broke the tiebreaker. This was only to determine who took home 1st place trophies and who took second and does not negate that both are state co-champions. Afterwards I told the fill-in coach for the Ice that I would contact my award guy and see if he can have new plates made to send to Terry that say co-champions for both the individual and team award. I am also going to see if I can find additional patches that say Ohio State Champions (which I know I have, just too dark right now to find them) to also send.

I will say one thing about these teams and this is no disrespect to the other teams in the field: Many of the officials and park volunteers were waiting in case we might be able to continue and needed field maintainence to get going again. Of course the lightning and decreasing daylight made that impossible to do safely. We were all enjoying watching the first game as the Ice got way out and the Lasers came charging right back a few innings later. The "if" game was also getting very good and we were glued to it instead of the 14U championship game in progress. No disrespect to Ohio Classics, but it was fun to watch the last few teams in 10U show as much skill as these girls did and we were all entertained and would like to have seen the ending of that game in progress.

I have to run but will post what scores I have in the results section a little later when everyone settles in.

Thanks for giving us great games to watch and enjoy all weekend.

How did this turn into what kind of coach Terry is? Nobody is questioning his success and what kind of coach he is. He is obviously successful. He started tryouts after everyone and is still coaching one of the best teams in the state. If he chooses to take a forfeit he is choosing to have an asterik loss meaning its not worth playing that early after what the families went thru for the weekend. Its a loss, who really cares that much????

Who does your dtr play for p4pchamp84? You can say what you want about our coach but you didn't see what he saw this weekend when he made that decision. Terry has been awesome for my dtr. She just started pitching in Oct & is one of the better pitchers due to him.

She was turned down by the Lasers last Aug yet is also a top hitter now too thanks to him. You won't see him screaming at the ump after a tourny game & having to be held back like a certain coach vs us at the Laser tourney.

Btw, game we were forced to play we won at Summer Slam. I'm praying he will continue to coach because he is a wonderful coach & role model for our dtr.

First-IMO no one on here has said anything about Terry"s integrity or his ability to coach. Terry started tryouts late, has girls on his team that are new to Travel Ball and still is able to make it to championship play. He is doing something right. I have'nt had much discussion with Terry involving softball its been about more important things like the hardships in life a child or individual has gone thru. The minimal conversation has always been positive.

Second P4PCHAMP84 is not connected to Grand Slam. I believe it is a coach or family of someone from OH Heat as it appears in the Week 10 Coaches Poll Thread. If you are upset with me for giving Kudos to the Lasers for beating Ice twice on misinformation "Get over it" There is no reason to bring up the actions of a fellow coach fighting for his girls for a terrible call with bases loaded to end the game. Would the outcome of that game been different probably not but you never know in softball. It may have been a judgement call by Blue but this past weekend it happened at the least a half dozen times and was never called. No reason to bring something up that happened two weeks ago and doesnt pertain to the this thread.

Thirdly BTW! The Ice did do a great job in the Pool Game against Grand Slam during Akron Slam. We didnt care about Ice wanting to forfeit and our girls actually looked forward to sleeping in. It was another exciting game between the two. As was the game between MI Pride and Grand Slam with GS prevailing 5-0. And as you know the championship game was another nail biter between GS and Ice as this time GS won. These are how games should be played.

Softballmom1963 made it simple by posting the results. Congrats to Lasers and Ice for their Co-championship!

Post the positives for your team and move on.

Ahh....the good old days of 10U and all of the chest thumping at the expense of 10U girls.

Patience grasshoppers. When you reach 16U, you all will transgress to be quiet parents that sit outside the field of play and enjoy watching all of the girls on the field and socialize with families of other teams.

But until then, we will get the popcorn and watch the drama created by 10U parents who think thier DD's are playing in the Championship of the World every weekend. I have been there and lived through it.

Mike, sounds like you and your crew did a good job. You can't control the weather.

Not sure how this thread got out of hand. I never said anyone was bad coach or questioned there integrity. Actually in my post I stated both were well coached teams. There 10 yr old girls... That probably never read OFC. To busy watching Sponge Bob or playing with American Girl dolls lol.

I'm just a parent. I was giving a shout out to ppl we know, Maddy, Hannah, Bailey, Ashley, Madison, Molly, Kirstein, Z, and Kerrian for winning a tourney. I know there parents we see them every week and there great softball ppl. The First place trophy they won was cool!! Looked like a Heisman softball trophy they were excited!!

That's all post was stating. We've played both teams. We just played Ice in a tight 5-4 battle Sunday that took a shot down the right field line in the last inning to win it. And #11 was one of the best pitchers we've seen. She brought the same heat inning after inning!!!

I know you're a well coached team. I like Bill and his wife, Mad dogs Grand daddy, and Lilley's dad to. There all great softball ppl who share the same love. Lilley's dad told me the story of Terry teaching Lilley to pitch step by step back at Laser Nation. And that Terry was awesome with Lilley. Relax Softballmom1968. This had nothing at all to do with the Ice team, coaches, or kids and everything to do with me sending some congrats to some ppl I know work hard to foster their kids love for the sport. Good Luck to all next week at Stingrays we should have a lot to talk about ha-ha...
