The Miami Valley Xpress 14 U team would like to thank Tim and the folks in Wilmington for hosting a good tournament. The Xpress extends good wishes to the Buckeye Heat, Southern Fury, and Stingrays for their upcoming seasons. Congratulations Xpress ladies for winning all 3 games and finishing the Fall season with a 13-1 record.

Thanks Tim for a great tournament. The girls enjoyed themselves and the competition was awesome. We're looking forward to coming back to Wilmington for some more softball!

Re: Sunday schedule for Wilmington

I would like to take my hats of the 11U Stingrays for the way they played in the 14U tourney in Wilmington today. You might not have won a game but you never gave up and played with some heart all day. You have made the Stingray family very proud. Keep working hard and we will see you in BeaverCreek next weekend. Coop said she was proud to play with you girls.
This was a great tourney and the umpires and fields were great. Definately hope you have it again next year.

Re:  Sat . Complete tournament schedule - Wil

Thank you to all the teams for coming to the tournament. We sure did have fun watching the girls/young ladies play. As many of you know, the two tournaments we had in Wilmington this Fall was an experimental thing as it seems no one wants to try to have tournaments in the Fall because of Fall ball schedules. This is why I went with the theory of one day events. Hopefully, it saved the parents money from having to stay overnight and as you well know, if you can't find something to eat within a two block area of this Park... then you aren't hungry.....lol... as we have many to offer in this city and none far away from the Park.

But, I need a favor from the teams and parents.

We are raising money with a men's softball tournament to be able to purchase "Hollywood" bases. This morning I went over the cost with the Park Director and it will take 1900.00 dollars to buy the bases, plugs, etc... This would include the double "Hollywood" bases for first base. We are going to raise money for those this year for the girls next year.

As I said, it was an experiment to have tournaments in Wilmington. It does seem that the teams and parents enjoyed themselves as I heard many good comments concerning the fields, the beautiful park and even parents talking about the availability of shade trees (for those long waits in between games) if the tournament was larger.

There is a meeting on Thursday morning concerning the budget for the City Park. City budget has been going around the Park over the past few years and this year we have a chance (because of the girls teams coming to town, to ask that the budget be increased so we can apply some of that monies to putting the dirt mixture to all the fields. I say we, as I am a volunteer to the Park (when I can) ands surely would love to do more for this park.

The favor I ask is to send an e-mail to the mayor's office prior to this meeting letting the city know how appreciative everyone was to the city and the Parks Department.
Understand, I am given the Park free of charge to hold tournaments. Of course, this allows me to give out better prizes for the girls/young ladies. Which I gladly like to do.

If you could e-mail the mayor with your comments, it will much appreciated and of course it does help the girls in the end when they come to Wilmington. I love this Park and hope you can help me make it a better place for the girls.

The e-mail to the mayor is: mayor@ci.wilmington.oh.us

Your help in this matter is appreciated. Maybe we can get the brick dust fields if it can get into the budget. But, the willingness of the teams to come to Wilmington and their experience while here.... well, it makes the difference.

Thank you again to the teams and I thank you in advance for firing off a letter to the mayor and the City of Wilmington asap.

I have been busy trying to get the fields covered yesterday for today's rains. One thing I will tell you....... the teams and the parents were the cleanest non throwing trash people I have ever met. These words were echoed by the Park itself and of course the employees thank you for your concern for the Park.

I will get to the scores and posting on Wednesday morning. Well, back to the Park to volunteer. I just wanted to get this posted as it means everything to let the mayor know how teams feel about playing in our fair city.

Uniform Blowout results in Wilmington

Saturday

? Starting with the 12u teams

OFC Heat Blast ?12 Sudden Death ?6
Cincy Doom ? over ?Blast
Cincy Doom ? ?over ?Sudden Death

Cincy Doom ?2 - 0
OFC Heat Blast 1 ?- 1
Sudden Death 0 - 2

OC Heat Blast ? ?over Sudden Death in first round of single elimination

OFC Heat Blast ? over Cincy Doom in Championship

14u

Phoenix ? ? 3 ?- ?0

Central Ohio Stingrays ?1 ?- ?2

Sudden Death ?1 ?- ?2

Diamond Dominators ?1 ?- ?2

? This tournament was so evenly matched with everybody beating everybody else... except nobody beat the Phoenix from Lancaster.

The final game of ?afternoon saw the action of the Phoenix team versus the Central Ohio Stingrays. ?Before the game, it was decided that the Ohio Stingrays, if they beat the Phoenix team by one run... then the tournament would be a complete tie down through 1 through 5 of the tie breaker rules which left coin flip. ?(This wouldn't have been used and a three inning playoff would have occured). ?If the Stingrays wins by two runs, then they would win it outright.

It all came down to the bottom of the seventh inning, two outs and a runner on second base. ?A base hit by a Phoenix player and the runner scoring secured the victory for the Phoenix team. ?I talk with Coach Tim Rice of the Phoenix and he said it was great to get a tournament win with this team as last year they took their knocks in the 14u division as a 13u team. ?His team was wanting the "teal" uniforms the coach promised them if they won the tournament. ?Good ?luck with the teal uniorms . ?From what I seen in this tournament..... next year's spring and summer season is going to be filled with excitement with everyone wanting to be a winner or at least ?the spoiler in a tournament . ? Even the umpires commented on the equality of the teams.

Phoenix 13 Diamond Dominators 3
Stingrays ? ? 13 Sudden Death ? ?3
Phoenix 13 Sudden Death ? ?9
Dia. Dominators ? 10 ? ? Stingrays 7
Sudden Death 9 ?(*win) ? Diamond Dominators ? ? 5
Phoenix ? 5 Stingrays 4

Please note: ?The above scores was reached in 1:30 minute time limit games.

16u

Buckeye Heat from Worthington, Ohio beat the Cincy Storm all three games played. ?While the 14u took a lunch break after their second game of the day, the 16u teams played to a crowd and provided the spectators with a lot of excitement , great defensive plays and fundamental ball playing and was exciting for all to see. ? The game I got to see, I saw two great programs tuning up or the Spring. ?Both will be contenders in 2008.

SUNDAY

Wow........ What a tournament with the crowd pulling or the Central Ohio Stingrays 11u team playing up in the 14u division. ?The Stingrays brought with them a pitcher who I had the pleasure to umpire in the first game while she was fresh. (She pitched all three games for the Stingrays and was working on her pitches) ?I umpired out of an emergency situation and normally don't umpire a tournament I throw for the girls. ?Of course, with the permission of the coaches prior to the tournament.

The Stingrays did their organization proud as the girls stepped up to the plate, caring not that the girls they were playing were three years older that them. ?Their first game against the Southern Fury team saw a close game for a long period of time, before a two out three run homer was hit ( I am almost sure they are still chasing it). ?Later in the game, the Fury struck again with a long range bomber.

This 12u pitcher for the Central Ohio Stingrays has smoke on the ball. ?When she brought the ball up ( which was hardly ever ) she got "dinged" by the Southern Fury players. ?Most of the runs was scored with two outs, which says a lot for the Southern Fury team. ?These young ladies should be a major ?contender in the 12u division playing the actual 12u teams who are 1 year older. ?This tournament was a grand experiment with the team and they held their head high... with the pride of the Wilmington crowd behind them.

Out of time, Got to go to work. ?Post scores tomorrow morning. ?The Miami X-Press won the tournament with what many at the Park felt could be a National ?Championship Contender come July/August, 2008 wherever they go.

Be back in the morning with the scores.

X Press ? 9 ? ? Buckeye Heat ? ? 1
Southern Fury ? ?10 ? ? Stingrays ? ? 4
X Press 14 ? ? Southern Fury ? ? 3
Buckeye Heat ? ? 13 ? ?Stingrays 0
X Press ?14 ? ?Stingrays 4
Buckeye Heat ? Win ? ?Southern Fury ? ?

I was very impressed with the young ladies from Buckeye Heat and Southern Fury. ?There is some great competition this year at this level. ?I see the 14u division to be "barn-burners", for sure in the coming season.

Re: Uniform Blowout results in Wilmington

Great competition. Phoenix rose to the occasion in 14U Saturday. They didn't blow anyone out, BUT THEY WON! Congratulations! Suddendeath vs. Diamond Dogs score was 9-5, Suddendeath. Thanks again for a great tournament

Hopefully this will spark enough interest to become a bigger tourney next year so all age groups get a chance to play.

What a great tourament!!!! We will be sure to e-mail the Major of Wilmington and thank him for the use of the park and having great people run the tournament.

We have been to a lot of tournaments and this small tournament is going to be a big one in future years. Even though it was a small tournament it was a great start for any team. I see this tournament growing and I hope to be a part of it. I am sure next year it will be a big one and we will be there to support it.

Just wanted to drop a line also to give everyone the correct scores of the Phoenix games.

Phoenix 13 Diamond Dominators 3
Phoenix 13 Sudden Death 9
Phoenix 5 Stingrays 4

Well played games by all. Gives all coaches an idea of what needs to be improved.

Thanks again Tim for the wonderful time in Wilmington.

Thank you for the adjustment to the scores.... lol... didn't read the score poster right. ?Rushed as I had a meeting in Chillicothe with the Park Board, mayor, Chamber, etc... for this tournament next year.
They are wanting this tournament to come to Chillicothe next year and the details are getting worked out and know more by first weekend on November. We are hoping for pitching, hitting and defensive clinics for the girls on both days and soon will be taking the names from the coaches who they would like to run those clinics and then go forward seeking their appearence at next year's event.

As I said earlier, this is your tournament, coaches. Your college showcase. I will start a thread for discussion on this matter in an open forum and the lady from the Ross County, Lissa , will be online with us to keep us updated throughout the winter and it will be a reasonable way for everyone to communicate their thoughts and hopefully get the other teams to come join the showcase next year.
We will still have tournaments in Wilmington as it is a centrally located for the teams and saves teams some overnight costs. ?I am shooting for a second weekend in July tournament as a last chance tournament (World Series Qualifier) type of thing. ?Have to make sure I am not bumping up against anyone else from our region with that date... as I will not do that. ?It doesn't help the girls doing that or the teams that are throwing their own tournament to raise monies.
