Re: Sat . Complete tournament schedule - Wil
Thank you to all the teams for coming to the tournament. We sure did have fun watching the girls/young ladies play. As many of you know, the two tournaments we had in Wilmington this Fall was an experimental thing as it seems no one wants to try to have tournaments in the Fall because of Fall ball schedules. This is why I went with the theory of one day events. Hopefully, it saved the parents money from having to stay overnight and as you well know, if you can't find something to eat within a two block area of this Park... then you aren't hungry.....lol... as we have many to offer in this city and none far away from the Park.
But, I need a favor from the teams and parents.
We are raising money with a men's softball tournament to be able to purchase "Hollywood" bases. This morning I went over the cost with the Park Director and it will take 1900.00 dollars to buy the bases, plugs, etc... This would include the double "Hollywood" bases for first base. We are going to raise money for those this year for the girls next year.
As I said, it was an experiment to have tournaments in Wilmington. It does seem that the teams and parents enjoyed themselves as I heard many good comments concerning the fields, the beautiful park and even parents talking about the availability of shade trees (for those long waits in between games) if the tournament was larger.
There is a meeting on Thursday morning concerning the budget for the City Park. City budget has been going around the Park over the past few years and this year we have a chance (because of the girls teams coming to town, to ask that the budget be increased so we can apply some of that monies to putting the dirt mixture to all the fields. I say we, as I am a volunteer to the Park (when I can) ands surely would love to do more for this park.
The favor I ask is to send an e-mail to the mayor's office prior to this meeting letting the city know how appreciative everyone was to the city and the Parks Department.
Understand, I am given the Park free of charge to hold tournaments. Of course, this allows me to give out better prizes for the girls/young ladies. Which I gladly like to do.
If you could e-mail the mayor with your comments, it will much appreciated and of course it does help the girls in the end when they come to Wilmington. I love this Park and hope you can help me make it a better place for the girls.
The e-mail to the mayor is:
mayor@ci.wilmington.oh.us
Your help in this matter is appreciated. Maybe we can get the brick dust fields if it can get into the budget. But, the willingness of the teams to come to Wilmington and their experience while here.... well, it makes the difference.
Thank you again to the teams and I thank you in advance for firing off a letter to the mayor and the City of Wilmington asap.
I have been busy trying to get the fields covered yesterday for today's rains. One thing I will tell you....... the teams and the parents were the cleanest non throwing trash people I have ever met. These words were echoed by the Park itself and of course the employees thank you for your concern for the Park.
I will get to the scores and posting on Wednesday morning. Well, back to the Park to volunteer. I just wanted to get this posted as it means everything to let the mayor know how teams feel about playing in our fair city.
