By Ohio High School Rules, are the practices over the next couple weeks to be pitching only:

B. SPECIFIC REGULATIONS— Grades 9-12
1) Coaching and instruction may begin— March 9, 2009.
NOTE: Pitching and catching candidates may begin throwing with pitching instruction
two weeks prior to this starting date— February 23, 2009

I copied this from the rules section. I interpet it as coach pitchers, but if you do anything else (hitting, fielding), it has to be without instruction or same as open gym.

Pitcher and catchers can do throwing and fielding. Pitchers and catchers are not restricted to just throwing pitches.

That is why everyone is a pitcher and catcher;):D

The Ohio High School Rules states pitchers and catchers may begin throwing with pitching instruction during this two week period; no mention of fielding or anything else.

We can split hairs all day long. It doesn't say they cannot. Pitching and catching instruction can and should involve fielding. Most all of the pitching and catching camps include fielding as part of the curriculum.

Its kind of interesting I know of more coaches who follow the spirit of "pitcher and catchers report" then coaches who say everybody is a pitcher and catcher. I am sure a lot of schools bend the rules, but a lot are by the book.

We continue conditioning in our MS gym and pitchers and catchers in our auxiliary gym. We will look to add catchers by bringing in prospects as our varsity catchers also are still playing basketball and unavailable at this time. And fielding your position is part of the training.

If you ask Hutch old GC coach and now ad at GC how he used to do it, he would tell you and stick by the rules when he coached and that is pitchers throw to get arm ready, not for fielding or batting or any other postition playing. That is OHSAA rules.

Ahh, come on guys. I was just pulling on some legs. Most everybody knows me and I do not condone breaking the rules.

Till basketball is over, we won't have many at softball till March. I would bet 80% of our girls play basketball.
