I am super impressed by the level of play by Ohio kids at the top level of D1 softball. Watching the #2 FSU vs. #5 Oregon. Seeing Jenna Lilley and Alexis Mack being huge contributors. Around the NCAA. Taran Alvelo is having an outstanding sophomore year with 25 wins and 6 losses against the #1 strength of schedule in the NCAA. At James Madison Cambry Arnold is having a strong impact as a freshman. The Ohio State buckeyes are in good position heading into post season. Shelby McCombs has been very good as well as Anna Kirk and Emily Clark. At OU Savannah Dorsey in #2 in strikeouts nationally after being number 1 last year. Just unbelievable the caliber of talent from the buckeye state. Congrats to all of these girls and thank you for representing us very well!!!

Don't forget Lilli Piper of Walsh Jesuit who is playing for the Buckeyes this year. She is the starting sophomore SS and is hitting .420 with 16 HR and leads the team in most offensive stats. As the commentator mentioned yesterday on ESPN, Lilli is one of the most feared hitters in the Big 10.
]

Piper has, almost single handedly, changed OSU softball. She leads the buckeyes in almost every stat imaginable, and both sides of the ball.

http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/ranksummary

She is currently ranked 55 in NCAA D1 for the 2017 year. She is ranked 24 with 14 HR TY. Her fielding percentage is also sick. They beat Michigan for the first time in 20 attempts TY and cracked the top 25 earlier in the NCAA coaches poll. There are a number of Ohio kids on this team. I suspect with the success of Ohio kids the OSU coach will be shopping closer to home in the coming years.

My question is why do so many Ohio kids leave the state to play, and so many CA kids come here? Hmmmmm. Times are a chang'n

Piper leads OSU in

BA- .407
Hits- 61
HR per game- .31
RBI per- 1.02
Slugging %- .747
Tied runs per- .91
Total bases- 112
toughest to stike out- 16.7

You are correct I did not mention her. She is a stud. I am sure I forgot some more those were the ones I could remember. The point is that Ohio is proving to be strong in the talent department at the highest level and against some of the beat competition in the country...

My question is why do so many Ohio kids leave the state to play, ...

If I was 18, and could get out of my backyard while someone else paid for it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. You know - Broaden your horizons, and all that. Maybe it's just me...

The rest of the world is finding out what we have known in Ohio for years. You don't have to be in warm weather to be a great player. It is a credit to the coaches in Ohio from all levels that have worked hard to provide kids with opportunities to grow their game. Keep in mind though that the players that have been mentioned practiced hours and hours and hours to develop their athletic skills and softball talents starting at a very early age. They made a huge commitment to become the best they could be in following their passion. Hard work makes dreams come true. If you want to play at the highest level it takes commitment, confidence, and determination to make it happen.

Its great to see Ohio kids at all levels being successful on the national stage. Otterbein just won the OAC and is headed to the NCAA III tournament with a roster full of Ohio kids.

Trust me I am no fan of Ohio, especially the weather. My point was how many kids would love to play for their home state, but no one came to look? And the sad part is how deep in tradition OSU athletics have. No reason OSU not in NCAA top 25 every year.

All these coaches in this State need to wake up, so much talent here in Ohio. I understand these college coaches like to take a paid vacation to California/Arizonia Etc. Etc. for recruiting trips, and if they don't bring a couple with them, there paid vacation will no longer be paid for, but wake up coaches look around our state.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. These kids are from Ohio going out and being on the big stage. These kids come from a state that gets overlooked for softball and are often discouraged by people mostly adults from achieving something like this because it's too far from home or you can't play in PAC 12 or SEC. College is about finding yourself and going on your own journey and most people get all worked up because a kid chooses to go somewhere other than OHIO STATE. It's about those kids and their journey and I for one am beyond proud of all of them even the ones I don't know be ause they are living the dream that they have worked their tails off their whole lives for. So who cares they didn't stay home
Celebrate their success and encourage the dreams of the next group to do the same.

Don't forget Mason Robinson, Olentangy Orange & Lasers Black - became the winningest pitcher in Murray State history, and in her senior season has a record of 23-9, and threw back to back perfect games.

Congrats to Jenna Lilley, Alexis Mack, and Taran Alvelo. All were major impacts to their teams run and final four finishes. Way to represent Ohio softball at the highest level of college softball.
