I don't usually talk publicly about my Team and my Players...but I would like to give a huge shout out to my Lasers Green Girls for taking care of coach this weekend!! They went 6-0 on the weekend and earned there ASA/USA berth, while at the same time allowing me the opportunity to attend my oldest daughters (Ashleigh Michelle) Baby Shower. We had excellent hitting and defense and were able to start 3 different pitchers (Harlie V. Skylar L. and Isabelle S.) on Sunday, Which included a no hitter by Harlie V. while Isabelle S. threw 6 innings while giving up only one unearned run in the championship game.

I would also like to give respect to both Lasers White 02 who came in 2nd and played like a dominant 2nd year 14U throughout the entire tournament and Lasers Silver 01 who came in 3rd and gave us everything we could handle!! Both Teams will continue to make Lasers Nation proud!!

Also, congrats to Lasers Purple 99 who went undefeated and won the 16U division :) I was able to watch 2 of there games with multiple college coaches I have known from the past...it was just a great weekend for Ohio Fastpitch!!

Here were our scores from this past weekend...

Lasers Green 14
Michigan Firestix 3

Lasers Green 5
Kentucky Firecrackers 1

Lasers Green 8
Michigan Finesse 4

Lasers Green 8
Ohio Outlaws Premier 0

Lasers Green 6
Lasers Silver 5

Lasers Green 2
Lasers White 1

Fantastic job Green!! I've known Lee for a long time he's not a pat yourself on the back kind of guy. He's blue collar, hard working and fair type of coach.. Congrats to your girls Lee it sounds like it was no easy walk in the park this weekend!! Looks like your team earned it!! Congrats again Lee!

I would like to take this time to send a huge Thank You to Mark and Gary for hosting what I believe is the first Fall ASA/USA National Qualifier in Ohio history!! Thus giving Teams from around a dozen states the opportunity to compete and earn there National berth. I watched Team North Carolina 18U just run through the competition at the 18U level and Picked up a sweet offensive adjustment while Observing there entire pre game before one of there games. :) :)

Congrats Lee and Lasers Green !!!!
Your girls played some great defense in the championship game, along with a pitcher that did a great job keeping our girls off balance the entire game… It was a great weekend for our Lasers White team as well , finishing the weekend with a 6-2 record and taking 2nd place . We had wins over some very good teams while only losing to our big sisters , Green and Silver.

KY Firecrackers 0

Lasers White 1
Lasers Silver 5

Lasers White 12

Thanks Bill and Dan, I thought the ASA/USA Qualifier was a huge success!! Your Lasers White team brought it this weekend and deserves the recognition!! There were also many Teams from 12U to 18U that were very talented. The umpires were solid, concessions good and many college coaches in attendence!! Hopefully, Mark and Gary will continue this event next year and offer Teams this unique opportunity to qualify early every September!! :) :)

Bink, What do you attribute your big turnaround in play since your invitational, good week of practice, you missing a game or two or motivating your ladies?

Just a heads up...TealTown also hosted a USA/ASA Qualifier last weekend. There were 17 teams in Cincinnati at the 14u level and teams from TN, KY, NC, MI+ so there are options in the state to earn a berth.

Not sure they had a big turnaround, but instead they played teams in the same age division...

Your talking Laser Green here, they should do better than 1-3-1 against respectable 16u teams,Then they run the table the next week,i need some of that Lee Pyles mojo or whatever did it.

Completely agree.

If you are playing A level 16U teams the 14U teams should not have a winning record.

I guess the only question here is how good where the teams that they went 1-3-1. Which I again would say they played some good teams.

I guess I am in the minority here when I think top 14U teams should not be beating top level 16U teams. I do not care what name is on the jersey.

And just so we are clear. What I am saying is that if the best 14U team in the nation played the top 10 16U teams in the country they should go 0-10. I guess you could have a 14U pitcher that is amazing. But I am not sure I would still not believe they should still go 5-5 at best.

And honestly, am in the minority here when I say that the goal at 14U is to keep learning and getting better. So Les is playing the best teams that will play him and letting the chips fall where they may. That is the way to do it. Especially in the Fall.

Hey Okie,

As far as a big turnaround from week 1 to week 2...I did not see much difference from my girls at all. I mean from an individual player effort and an individual player skill set there was little to no diference from week 1 to week 2. Oh I gave most of the girls different hitting or fielding drills that they needed to work on at home, and they do text me throughout the week to keep me updated. But as with all things in Fastpitch, there were many extraneous variables in play from week 1 to week 2. Also I was present at all 11 games the past 2 weeks :) Here is how it played out in week #1...

1) It was our first week playing together...with 5 players being new this year and believe me I was one rusty coach in the 3rd base coaches box...lol.

2) 3 of the new players are now our 3 pitchers. We were, and still are adjusting to each other in terms of calling pitches.

3) It was also the first live game action my hitters had seen since ASA/USA Nationals in Salem, Virginia in late July early August.

4) When Showcaseing we bat our 12 player lineup and mix and match defensive positions, some teams don't. Now don't get me wrong we play to win every game whether its a friendly, showcase or tournament!!

5) We also had the luxury of scheduling our 5 games. With this being said we scheduled 5 great teams who would challenge us with every pitch, swing and play of each game, thus pushing us to play at a 16U level in preparation of us peaking next August 1st. We finished the Lasers Green Invitational Showcase 1-2-2...here were our scores...

Saturday,,,

Ohio Thunder 99 4
Lasers Green 01 3

Indiana Prospects 00 4
Lasers Green 01 2

Sunday,,,

Lasers Green 01 4
Indiana Shockwaves 00 3

Lasers Green 01 2
Michigan Turnin2 00 2

Lasers Green 01 2
Beverly Bandits 01 2

Sounds like they got back in the groove and did the work the week between to make it happen, adjusting and getting to know the new pitchers, probably helped as well, nice thing to happen to a team, with everyone needing pitching.Good luck this fall I'll look for your team to do well.
