1st - HOH Nitro 6-0
2nd - Ohio Fire 4-2
3rd - Ohio Hawks 4-2
4th - Ohio Wave 2-4

Again, very well done, enjoyed ourselves, thanks to all. Congrat's Nitro.

When asked I made 1 mention about the format... and there is probably not a better way to handle it but the first tie breaker was runs allowed (after head/head). We used this tourney as a 'coaches' showcase - we moved girls all over the field to get a look at them - even out of their normal position if we had a big lead - or pitching a player for her first time. That runs counter to the runs allowed tie breaker. We gave up about a dozen runs due to this approach. That is our choice of course, but most teams were there (10u) to get a look at their girls first, win it second.

Just an observation, again not sure their is a better way.

Doug:

I think that if you make the choice to use the tourney to get a look at your players in new positions, then you just have to accept that you are putting your team at a disadvantage in terms of winning the whole thing. A TD has enough on his or her hands without changing fairly standard methods for breaking ties based upon a perceived intent of the teams that have entered. And just as sure as a TD makes such a change, another team will complain. (And from the tone of your post, I think you understand that the choice you made as to how to play the tournament inherently comes with the added risk that you won't win the tournament).

yep, agree 100% ... I learned more in those 6 games about my new players then a month of 50 min games... I know exactly what we need to work on indoors during the winter... very valuable tool. That approach was more valueable then winning the tourney (would have been nice to do both)

Not all the time ;) but it sure makes the season go better... we try to balance the girls playing experience with winning the best we can .. as do a lot of the teams we come across.

Its gonna be interesting to see these teams progress thru the season. They should be seeing eachother at multiple tournaments this season.

We are looking for a strong team to scrimmage in the next couple of weekends ... but would like it to be a friendly - maybe play 4-5 innings, take a break to eat/re-charge and go at it again.

Our goal is to throw our #2 and #3 pitchers up front, take a look at our #2/#3 catchers and play some girls at their secondary positions in the first 'game' - then maybe we go after it in the second - both teams throwing and playing their best 9 ... anyone interested? Sat morn or Sunday afternoon?
