Hey snakesdad, bet she leads the state in hit by pitch this year. LOL Cant wait to see Anna step up to the plate on campus next year, that is a kid that works hard.

The pitcher, Shelby Hursh, originally verballed to Miami (OH) and then followed Schoenly to tOSU. She replaces a very strong pitcher, Erica Romero, that decommitted after tOSU didn't renew Linda K. I hope it works out for everyone.

Maybe I am naive, but can someone explain to me how, with all the softball talent in this state, how is it that OSU is, how do I say this...... not relevant in softball? Maybe instead of picking up the leftovers from out West, they should concentrate on the excellent talent in-state. (Sito, Modic, Gabriel etc..) Just curious is all.

maybe, those players weren't interested in TOSU.

There are currently 9 Ohio girls on the roster (unless I counted wrong), but I would expect that number to be higher. And as far as the girls not being interested, I believe that if OSU was relevant in the softball world, many of them would have been.

Too late..I'll start. The reason, is because some are delusional believing that our girls can hang. Yes some can, but those who can leave the state to play. We all agree that the Lasers are one of the best in the state. How do they typically do against the rest of the country? I'm NOT knocking on them before someone thinks I am for I highly respect that org.

So let's say Joe Smoe's dd is always beating them and is tearing up the state even worse. How is she going to get better? She isn't. So, to face better competition constantly, she has to leave the state. However, if the Lasers (which they are doing now) go out and do those large tourneys like Sparkler, ASA/USA, Rising Stars, etc. and Joe Smoe's dd is doing a great job handling them, then OSU would easily pick her up.

Remember unlike travel, college coaches need to win to keep their jobs. They hold no allegiances to the state they are in. So I can't blame the HC for going to CA for that.

The good news is, Ohio is starting to get there, but we are at least 2 yrs removed still IMHO

What I find interesting about Female college sports is how thin the line is between the different levels of college play. Plenty of MAC players could be very good B1G players, Plenty of D2 Players could very good MAC players and so on. It's not nearly as cut and dry at the D3, NAIA and JC level, plenty of D1 talent that doesn't want to do the schedule, poor grades or was not aware of how to get recruited. I think that would be the most difficult part of being a college coach is spending my athletic money when the line is so thin. I can be an arm chair recruiter all I want but I just think it is far tougher then we realize.

Ohio is getting better talent, there just isnt many with THAT kind of talent each year. Less than a hand full each year. Hitting is what separates the girls from the women.

Couldn't agree more. The top teams we see all have mashers and they hit hard from 1-9. That translates to big hitters moving on to college. HITTERS will play!!!

"THAT kind of talent" being OSU level talent or top tier D1 talent?

I don't disagree that there might be less than a handful a year in Ohio but I would add that of those few that exist, very few end up at OSU.

I think that is all about to change with Coach Schoenly. I had chance to talk to her for a while yesterday and I was very excited about the direction of OSU Softball after our conversation.

Who did the OH and IND girls play travel ball for?

The ones that signed with OSU I mean, they mention the Cali girl played for Corona Angels, but didn't see travel teams mentioned for the other.

Indy girl played for Indiana Magic Gold. I think all three of these girls were Miami of Ohio recruits she brought with her.

I was told something similar to what you are saying, Warren. Miami's 2013 was full at one time prior to September/October. I heard they were looking for three or four after that.

I think its great that they brought their Miami recruits with them....my Q is, where did they get the $$$$from? I'm assuming these kids were offered some money? Were there some Kalafatis decommits? Did some of the OSU Kalafatis verbals (not NLI signeees) get a reduction?

There's not as much money as you think when it comes to softball in general. Most schools including OSU are going to recruit pitchers. You'd be surprised at D2 and D3 how many girls are playing for books or less while D1 will have roster girls not getting much more than that. Sorry, but with all due respect we're talking about women's softball not even basketball let alone Men's Football that pays the bills for almost all sports.
