Outlaws and Hotshots for WWAST charity softball team!

Last year we took a mixed team of girls from our local rec teams, other travel teams, and a couple of our Outlaws to a tournament in North Akron to raise money for a charity fire fund for Garrettsville Strong: http://weeklyvillager.com/2014/05/08/garrettsvillestrong-softball-team-wins-tournament/ We raised money for a good cause and even won the tournament, had a blast doing it. Was a great experience for all involved.

There are "two" tournaments that are supporting us this year, both in the Akron area, April 25-26 and also the next weekend May 1-3. North Akron tourney and the Fury Fastpitch tourney.

We were looking for something similar for this year and decided to raise some money for WWAST Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team. WWAST are all Army and Marines that were wounded in combat, for all of us. Their motto is ?LIFE WITHOUT A LIMB IS LIMITLESS?. This would be an exceptional experience for the girls and us.

Again this year we have the support of Warren Wolff of the Ohio Outlaws and also Garrettsville Youth Softball. Coach Adam Acord from our Outlaws 13u Silver is going to join us and help coach the team.

I know it?s very early, but if anyone is interested in participating this year or just want to donate, let me know asap. Cost is 50.00 per player (for one or 75.00 both tourneys-roster limited) for a game jersey modeled off of the WWAST players uniform and 14u tournament games(we plan on playing deep, so hopefully a bunch of games,lol), all proceeds after jersey costs, etc, go directly to the WWAST team charity, along with any other donations.

Also, the WWAST team will be in Akron in June 19-21 and I am trying to get some time for the girls to meet them, if we can work out a schedule. They have responded that they are sure they could work something out.

Let me know as soon as possible if you would like to enter, send me shirt size and ?2? uniform numbers in case first choice is taken, and as soon as we receive all the donations we can get uniforms ordered. PM me for donation details, I?ll keep track of all donations and expenses for all to see. Our uniforms will come from an official WWAST uniform outfitter that donates a portion of each jersey sale to the team as well.

Please be sure to clear with your current coach or let me know and I?ll give them a call.

Remember this is for charity and for hopefully some cool memories for the ladies, so we are looking for 12-15 players per tourney. We will rotate and have fun, but playing to win as always, lol. If I get a large interest we will do a tryout and cap it at 15 max. Had a bunch of interest already!

If anyone knows of businesses that would be interesting in sponsoring, please pass that along and if they donate your player can participate for free.

I have had interest in getting jersey's and/or making donations. Jersey's are pricy, trying to get the cost down, though part of the vendor's cost also goes to the WWAST team. Jerseys are 50.00 and are exactly like one of their game jersey's in red white blue.

(This venue change was done as a reflection of the final roster. Last year we were mostly local girls 12of15 and the Akron tourney fit that roster. We did not feel it would have been sportsmanlike to bring this roster to a tourment being held for local rec teams to enjoy appropriate competition levels. Ok, we are ready to play some ball!

The WWAST team has their Red White and Blue uniforms ready to go.

We ended up with 26 players from 14 different teams/organizations, spread across two weekend tourneys, Outlaws Silver, Outlaws Premier, Outlaws Pa, Lasers Green, Lasers White, Lasers Orange, Ice Black, Hawks, Hawks-Robinson, Lookouts, Gville rec, Valley Extreme, Miami Valley xpress, and Fury. A pretty good cross section of Ohio softball. Gonna be fun setting line-ups and such, lol, but a good problem.

Very excited to coach them and enjoy the competetion with them for a good cause. Its one of those rare times when it really is just about the game and the spirit of competion. Noone is out to impress a coach, or a parent, play any political manueverings, they are not competing for a spot or playing time, there are no scouts in the stands or anything lofty to play for other than themselves and their new weekend teammates.

Good stuff. All these players and families have won before the first pitch is even thrown.

Come down to the Y-town Mayhem, look for the Red White and Blue gang and cheer the ladies on!
