Parents role at pitching lessons: Listen, learn, and ask questions.
Agreed.

I think that there is a nice balance that can be found. Allowing the two of THEM to conduct the lesson without "hovering", while occasionally offering an observation or asking questions. A good balance may also let the PC know that you are learning too. I don't feel there's anything wrong with showing an active interest throughout the lesson, so long as you aren't distracting from what they are trying to accomplish.

I leave the mechanics, grips, and fundamentals entirely up to them. I couldn't show you a rise ball grip if my life depended on it. It's great to know that she possesses a skill and a knowledge that I will never have.

The three of us may have more detailed discussions about situational pitching near the tail end of our lesson. I try to retain as much as I can here so she doesn't feel too pressured to remember absolutely everything that is said. That allows me to answer questions she may have later or to remind her to ask those same questions the next time we get together for a workout.

I'm wondering if I should take a little more of a roll in my DD's pitching in college. When she went into college she had a 2 seam fastball, a 4 seam fastball, circle changeup, flip changeup, knuckleball changeup, rise ball, screw/rise, curve/rise, drop ball, drop/curve, screwball, and a curve ball. She had 12 pitches that she mastered. Now that she is in college, she is only throwing 3......I think I might have to have a talk with her coach......:lmao::lmao:

What 3 pitches

I would guess Curve, Change and Rise

To be honest without joking, Curve, Drop and Change, occassional screwball. Sometimes the rise, but she needs a little more velocity on it, if she can get it to 60-61, she will probably use it more.

My role is: I drive her to the lessons and home. She lines up a catcher. At the game I sit in the outfield.

This is in no way a shot against you VSFPcoach, I don't even know you. But this is the funniest statement I have ever read!!!!! It should really go into the OFC Hall of Fame of statements. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

dang it Klump , you beat me too it. This has the potential for 15 pages , 5k views , and 42 visits to the ER for " pulled abdominal muscle while laughing hysterically" The statement " I would never lie about my daughter's talents " by a pitchers dad caused me to laugh so hard my coworkers thought I'd flipped out. for me...the wife drives her and catches her most of the time...I get the update when she gets home...rarely go due to coaching the oldest. My 2 cents...pay a PC that is good enough to shut me up when I'm there. I'm more than happy to be a subservient and quiet parent.

I have to admit....when I saw the ID "Serenesoftball" I envisioned a person posting on here while listening to an Enya CD in the background, in a dim candle-lit room, sipping Chamomile tea and eating butter cookies on a fancy doyly.

Let me explain:

:cap:I became serene to deal with all of the politics youth ball.

It helped me deal with all of the overboard parents.

;)You know the parents of the 11u girls with 9 pitches that are all wicked.
;)The parent of the 9 year old who will certainly be the starting shortstop for the varsity.
;)The 12U with a faster time to first than Watley. Honest, I held the stopwatch!
;)The coaches with that "special" radar gun. The one that you need to add three miles to (because it is slow), and then another two because you are pitching inside
;)The parents of the girl who was an OK pitcher on a great team, who later wonders why dd is getting crushed when the tables are finally even.
;)The coach who stacks their 12u team in the name of progress, or because Cindy needs to ride with Ginger.
;) The coach who puts his stacked team in the same league with the "unwashed" only to wonder later why the girls he picked stagnated and the others (who had to fight) went on to play in college.

I became serene to deal with the bs because it was better for me that the alternative.

Oh, also, it isn't "Enya CD in the background, in a dim candle-lit room, sipping Chamomile tea and eating butter cookies on a fancy doyly."
More like Neil Young or Bruce in the background, a beer, maybe sipping a Dewars and eating chips off of my tee shirt! (Now how is that for a picture!)
