Yes it is true, Patrick Murphy has left Alabama to be the head coach at LSU.. He is taking Alyson Habetz his long time assistant with him. Good Luck in the bayou coach Murphy..

Funny thing - I have a catcher that is/was being courted by Alabama. She was at the WCWS and even went to Bama's meet and greet. She is scheduled to go to their softball camp after we finish with the Carolina Dynamite showcase next weekend. Her parents conversed with the camp director/coach 3 times today about late arrival, and I did once. Everything was peachy. Usually when I email Murphy and/or Habetz I get a response within an hour - so far not a peep!! The girl is crushed.

To be honest when all of the info is public everyone will see it really was a great move for him and coach Habetz..
I for 1 am excited to see what he does in the Bayou and remember everyone looks better in purple..

Didn't see that coming, WOW!!!

Somebody from the Bama program should notify the girl as an act of good faith. I realize the young lady probably wanted to play for Murphy but it would be unprofessional for an outgoing coach to communicate with a player that was being recruited for the school. Personally, I hate she is hurting but this is a part of life many of us face in modern day times. Unfortunately, computers can make things very impersonal leaving many numb to the events that take place.

Hang in there, things will work out with time. Murphy seems like a stand up guy. I'm sure he considered the girls he was recruiting when making his decision but again, for professional reasons his hands were probably tied.

Any talks of the replacement ?

It's a shame , but players seem to want to play for a coach rather than a school. I'm sure that Bama will still be a powerhouse, and LSU just improved.

Bama>LSU every time in every sport . I'm a SEC nut , always have been but other than LSU's big run in football 3-4 years ago bama is superior to LSU in all the biggies, maybe Murphy will raise LSU's softball to the heights of Bama softball but he is leaving a top 5 program for a not top 5 program. maybe he wants the challenge . nothing wrong with that. But it seems like he had unfinished business at Bama such as winning a title. MD

Younger players are ****ed but they will get over it. Older ones seem happy to have them both back. It will be interesting to see how the recruits react next weekend. I bet some of them changed their plans for the camp.

At an older NFCA class he mentioned how the entire athletic program rotated around the football team at Alabama. When Saban arrived, they treated him like a God Murph said. Saban was always on the university private jet and would often show to meetings late but nobody said anything cause it was Saban. I know Murph had a few plans for the program that included dollars. I'm just guessing but I bet he just got sick of playing second fiddle even though his program was one of the best at the school. LSU just got a heck of a lot better ;)

Regardless of the success of any schools softball program it will always play second fiddle to football or basketball if those FB/BB programs are solid...especially in the SEC. Heck - just ask UCLA softball!! LSU would have been no better. Ultimately I take him at his word. After he left for LSU he and Habetz realized that Alabama was where they felt the most comfortable. That is why they went back to Alabama.
