Paypal Team Fee Payments

We're in the process of trying to set up paypal for a baseball team so we can accept team fee payments with credit cards.

Has anyone ever done this and, if so, was it worth the effort?

My initial opinion part way down the path is that the cost won't be as bad as the paperwork required. But we really think offering a credit card option will speed up our collection process. And paypal was a lot cheaper than going through our local bank where we have our account.

The Ohio Hawks have it set up so you can pay online with a credit card from their web site.

I thought about doing that a few years back as we have the ability to do it through our web host at a very cheap rate. Then I thought about the whole premise of credit card debt and what that could do to some families and I decided not to do it.

We have a problem with credit card debt in this country, why take something as wholesome as BB/SB and contribute to the problem. As much as I hate to say it, there are some kids that due to financial circumstances can't participate. We give families 5 or 6 months of payments to help them break it up, but in the end if they can't work that out then they may not be in a position to play. Face it, the fees are actually the least expensive part of this sport. JMHO

You can pay thru PayPal with your checking account also. And I believe there are no additional fees when done this way.........

It works great ... there is a small fee but the parents love the ability to do so... next we are going to setup monthly recuring charges to allow a parents to spread their payments over 8 months ...

You can use a company that sells what is called a "virtual terminal" to add a link to your website. Couple companies I know of and they can do everything for ya. Transfirst, First Data, Merchant e Solutions....

Yes I spoke to the commercial accounts person at our bank about using First Data or Transfirst for that. I think we are going to start small with the paypal basic over the phone procedure and progress from there.

Thank all of you for the feedback.

I have worked in this industry for 4 years and it is a complicated industry. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me. I want you to be treated fair. It is unregulated and you can loose your shorts even with some of the top providers. Below are some links to help you make some sence out of this industry.

There are many middlemen in this industries...an example is a bank. They use a sister company or a third party and when they do it creates another level of cost.

You can use the Square card reader and a smart phone. I use this for my small business, the fees are better than paypal. I had not thought about using for my team but I will now.

I've set them up a couple of times for HS booster groups, but both times they met with mixed results. First couple years there was some interest, but over time less than 5% of the members used it and the accounts were ultimately closed.
