Tournament Fees and Paypal

I have just set up an account with paypal to collect fees for my tournaments. Does this sound like a good idea?

Paypal does charge me 1% to 2% per transaction.

Would the coaches out there like to be able to pay for tournaments this way or am I wasting my time.

I figured it might be easier to the teams if I offered this. You can pay by credit/debit card or checking account.

Just looking for some feedback on this issue.

Good Question. I have been tossing around the same Idea. Personally I think it is a good idea to streamline the registration process. I would like to pose a qustion to you though... In the Pay Pal process is there a way to get more info from teams besides just credit card info? Information important for the tournament director? Also, Do teams have to have a pay pal accoun? OR just a Credit Card

Thanks

I think PayPal is a great idea. I use it on Ebay as well as other websites. Fast, easy, and proof of payment for both the sender and the recipient.

Irish Dad,

I use pay-pal all the time too. They do have to have a pay-pal account to use it to pay. They can draw from their checking account (e-check) or pay with CC if it is set up.

There is a place in the payment section to leave comments. I would hope that the paying team would leave their team name etc. If not, the user name is usually thier e-mail address and you can contact them for the info that you need.

I agree, would make life easier and instantaneous for payments.

I can send invoices by e-mail and get the roster at the tournaments. As far as i know you do not need a paypal account to send me/my tournaments money.

I looked into it further. With the correct Pay Pal Membership, you can make it so only a Credit Card is needed.

I used PayPal several years ago - perhaps the charges are different now - but at $275 entry fee - they took almost $11 per transanction.

You might want to be sure of the fees they deduct on your end.
I will be using again this year for the registration fees for the showcase at Slugger Fest.
It's easy and helps with the bookkeeping as well if you have an account set up.

Just my two cents worth.

Did some more checking. It costs me $30.00 a month and 3.1% plus $.50 a transaction. I may shut this down. $30 a month is to much plus the fees. I can handle the 3.1% but not the $30.

based on aveage costs, i know a web link is available at $15 per month and 2.69% is offered as well as .25 per transaction. If you have interest and want to take payments via your website or by phone, let me know and I will be happy to set you up!

I think this is a great idea but I hate to see organizations lose money, especially if it is one of their main fundraisers.
