Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitcher or Catcher? What would you do?

Do Both my daughter catches and pitches and also plays third some on her travel ball team. Let her pitch in Rec ball and catch in travel ball if she works hard at pitching I'm sure her travel ball coach will give her a shot. Heck my daughter last weekend caught 5 innings and came in and pitched the final two innings in a 1-0 victory so just keep working good things will come.

I pitched and caught from 9 years old all the way up to 18U. I made the Varsity team my freshman year mostly for my pitching, but ended up catching my Senior year because we didn't have anyone else. I think it's really valuable to have more than one primary position, even though pitching and catching are two of the most time consuming off the field. I also coach a 12U team and we have two pitchers who are also catchers, even though they see more time in the circle than behind the plate.

Don't let her being a lefty rule her out of being a catcher. One of my best friends is the current starting catcher at an NAIA school in Kentucky and she is left handed.
