Brittany Mullen, Pitching Instructor In Akron and Medina county

Looking for a pitching Instructor in Akron or Medina county?
Brittany Mullen Is a pitching Instructor who works In Akron, and the surrounding Medina county area she is a coach and Instructor who trained with Doug Finch and Jennie Finch. She was also heavily recruited by some Division 1 colleges.
I know she's an excellent pitching Instructor, and mentor to young girls, because my dd has been one of her students for a year, went from throwing one pitch to throwing five different pitches confidently, working on a sixth. Throws In the low to mid 50's, went from playing Rec. ball one year to playing on a 12U tournament and a 14U travel team this season.
Brittany teaches the same mechanics Jennie Finch was taught by Her father, based on the biomechanics research of his mentor Dr. Sherry L. Werner.
These pitching mechanics have been tested at the highest level in Fastpitch softball.

The Leffews are amazing. Amie is in LaGrange and her dad Dave is Ashland Universitys pitching coach. Amie brought Keystone to a district championship and she improved my daughters pitching from 47mph at 16 to a solid 55 by the time she graduated this past year. What you all have to understand is if the girls do not have good base mechanics do not worry about the various pitches!!! Once the mechanics are good then they can learn the other pitches. As parents we tend to worry about all the other pitches that they need to learn instead of weather their body is doing the pitching motion right. I have heard of parents that have marched in to coaches and demanded that they only teach the other pitches when their daughters have already had major surgery to back or shoulder and it is sad that as parents we are willing to allow our children to go through this! My daughter had some bad habits that were corrected and she has never had an injury!

Another coach is Alanna Barker. She is older then Amie but won 4 high school state championships. Pitched two years in college before an injury and surgery sidelinned her. ( She had been pitching since she was 6). I have looked her stats up and she seems solid. Alanna is opening up her own school in Tallmadge.

numbers are Amie 440-242-9796, Alanna is 740-319-1727.

Carolyn,
Thank you for your comments, I appreciate your enthusiasms about your friends colleagues etc. I even heard good things about the Leffew family. But Brittany Mullen Is a native of Northeast Ohio, and a pitcher who graduated with honors from both Archbishop Hoban High school, and John Carroll University. Brittany has trained with Doug and Jennie Finch, she Is still a colleague of Doug's. She hosted a weekend family camp with Doug that we attended In Lakewood just last summer.
As I stated In my post my daughter went from throwing one pitch to throwing five pitches confidently, and because of Brittany my daughter has a strong foundation and solid base mechanics this has allowed her to develop her various pitches.
Brittany teaches the same mechanics Jennie Finch was taught by her father, this allows my daughter to pitch with safe mechanics.
Dr. Sherry L. Werner (Doug Finch's mentor) Is a bio-mechanics physician who has created one of the largest data base studies In keeping windmill pitcher's safe, and performing at a very high level. With her mentoring they created the system that would not only help keep Jennie and other windmill pitcher's safe, but allow them to perform at the highest level In fastpitch softball.
This research Is backed with facts, physics, and common sense.
My daughter throws In the low to mid fifties, she's working on her six and final pitch, she's never had an injury from pitching, she had her first no hitter for her 14U travel team, she was the work horse for her 12U tournament team, and performed at a high level this season, all this after the last three years In rec. ball, I think this lends credit to Brittany's Instruction.
Brittany was trained by Doug Finch, and he trained Jennie to be one of the greatest pitcher's to ever play fastpitch softball.
Thank you

Mark

I too can attest to how wonderful Amie Leffew is. She has been my DD's one and only pitching coach since she started 2 1/2 years ago. My DD has 4 solid pitches and is working on a fourth. She is mechanically sound with her pitches being accurate (most of the time) and with nice movement. Amie believes in mechanics first and speed will follow. Some pitchers have multiple pitches that all look pretty much the same or have bad mechanics that are holding them back. I really like how Amie has taken her time to ensure fundamentals, mechanics, technique. Amie continually goes to conferences and futhers her education and brings back all this wonderful knowledge to her girls. My DD has never once had an injury due to pitching. She has a drill to fix every problem my DD has had. Amie is concerned about her girls globally, not just pitching. She talks to my DD about other positions she plays, how her batting is going, speed and agility, how to talk to coaches, how to prepare for tryouts, grades, attitude and work ethic, and how to prepare for her future on and off the field. Amie Leffew produces well-rounded athletes and I couldn't be happier.

I started this thread to help anyone looking for a pitching Instructor In Akron and the surrounding Medina county area.
I find It Interesting that the recent post are not from parents In this area, but Individuals singing the praises of other Instructors.
If the other Instructors mentioned merit this high praise why not set up a thread for that very reason.
My post does not impune any Instructors and I know there are some very good ones throughout Ohio.
I met Dave and Amie Leffew last summer when they did a seminar/clinic at there studio on off season training, the physical and mental aspects of training, setting goals, etc. I respect the Leffew's I thought there seminar was very Informative, but I know this wouldn't cause me to change my daughter's Instructor.
Brittany Mullen has accelerated my daughter's progress In one year, she throws five pitches confidently (working on her sixth) because she has very sound mechanics, she throws In the low to mid fifties, I know her pitches have movement when the coaches of the team's that've faced my daughter this year have complimented her on her curveball or tell her she has a nice change up, great velocity, or a nasty screwball.
Brittany Is an excellent Instructor, she loves what she does because not only does she train pitchers of all ages and skill levels, but she also coaches tournament players.
Nothing makes her more proud then when she sees or hears about one of her students progress, or about a player reaching a new goal or accomplishment. I know that there are excellent pitching Instructors through out Ohio, and if you're looking for an Instructor In Akron and Medina county Brittany Mullen Is definitely the real deal !
Thank you

Mark

I guess Carolyn, fpitchdad, and I didn't realize that we were only allowed to reply to this thread if we wanted to talk about Brittany Mullen. Medina county is adjacent to my county and I can get to Akron in roughly an hour thus in my opinion making it local or "surrounding Medina County". None of us suggested a coach from Columbus or Cincinnati. But, I do hear of people traveling that far for lessons. I like to hear about other pitching coaches. I personally do not know of many so I welcome the knowledge in case we would ever need to seek out another opinion or we needed to make a recommendation to someone who doesn't want to travel to see our pitching coach. As far as your DD's success "lends credit to Brittany's instruction", I think you're slightly off on that. Your DD is a really great pitcher who has a really promising future. She has developed SO much in the course of only a year. Pitching instructors or any kind of instructor for that manner can only do so much. It's your DD's love and passion for the game, her drive to be better and give it her all, to be there for her team and coaches, and you as the parent sitting on the bucket for hours on end until your butt and hand go numb, your commitment to he

Well for some reason the whole reply didn't post. As I was saying: your commitment to her and the encouragement you give is all responsible for making your DD the pitcher she is at the end of this season. Yes it certainly attributes to Brittany but I think more to your DD and you. I know one thing for sure: My DD would play with your DD anytime!
