Pitching machines and tryouts...

Let's see ~300-500 girls a day for tryouts * 10+ pitches per girl =~ 3000-5000 pitches.. Going to have to give the nod to the machine for a consistent look. I'm mainly looking at form and mechanics though.

Thats ALOT of girls...most so far at any tryout thus far is 17.

Thanks for all the feedback. i just think some girls probably get discouraged if they dont hit well or at all out of the machine. Some front toss might keep there morale up.

Can someone tell me what the 'Barry Bonds Drill' might be.
I assume it nothing to do with 'roids.

You start at the normal plate with the machine. When you hit the ball you take a step closer to the pitching machine, until you cannot hit the ball anymore, or you are a few feet from the machine. Then you start to work your way back.

Are pitching machines a true judge of a players ability to hit?? I understand the pitching machine is a "time saver", but wouldnt front toss be a more acurate way to measure hitting abilities???

My dd hits the *lights out* on a pitching machine, but only hit .250 this season. Coversely our best overall hitter (with an OPS over 1.000) can't touch a ball from a pitching machine. I agree with most posts; it is one data point, but mechanics are far more important.
