Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitching Statistics - Opponent Batting Average

Hello,

I'm trying to get some quick answers for calculating pitching stats.
I already have a pretty good Excel spread sheet that includes all the main stats (WHIP, ERA, Result of first pitch, etc), but I'm looking for more.
I know I can just go out and download Iscore or Gamechanger, but with my Ipad broke that is not possible at this time.
What I want to include into my pitching stats tracking is the Opponent Batting Average, would this include the hits that the pitcher gives up or all hits that are recorded (hits given up by pitcher and hits allowed due to an error in the field)?
Also is there a way to figure the On Base Percentage against a pitcher?
Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

all you need is the girls the pitcher is facing offensive stats.....You are thinking to hard about this.

A pitchers BA against is = to the offensive players batting average it really is that simple, no difference

Same with on base percentage......ERA....ect.

BTW I think a better stat to track is the count when the at bat ends, if there is one thing I can say for certain. Getting behind in the count rarely ends well for either the pitcher or hitter.

Also, you really need to know what pitches are being called and location. Is she hitting her spots....ect. That is even more important. I often here parents groan when the 0-2 pitch is outside and they scream "come on throw one by her"....REALLY? at 0-2 you want your pitcher to put it in the zone......only if the batter is BAD, and I mean really bad. Otherwise throw a ball and get her to hit your pitch or strike out.

Agree with spartan - Average against is the number of hits the other team scored divided by their at bats (remember walks, hit by a pitch, and sacrifices don't count as an at bat). On base percentage uses plate appearances, not At Bats.

You can get iScore for your smartphone if your iPad is down. This app does everything you ask for, and more. And there is a pitch/location feature with this app. Go to their website and there is a tutorial and a FAQ that will answer most, if not all, of your questions. This app really takes a lot of legwork out of the stats process.

Errors by the defense do not count as hits against the pitcher. Being unbiased about whether it's a hit or an error is when it gets tricky lol.

Focus on WHIP and ERA.... You can sign up for free to Tomorrows Pro. It will track runs, earned runs BF, PC, Ball/Strike, ERA and most importantly WHIP....

Even a bad batter will hit an acorn ever now and then.

We were tied and my dd was pitching to the 9th batter and was up 0-2 on fastballs. The High School Coach then called for a change-up, my dd thought it was an insane call but had been learned not change the pitch; so she threw it in the dirt, the batter stepped up and hit a triple off of the bounce, with a golf swing into left field helped along by the left fielder falling down; I suspect form laughing to hard.

I agree that if a pitcher is up 0-2 the batter shouldn't see a hittable pitch for two more pitches and maybe the third. Stats that I think are telling for a pitcher are strikeouts/game compared to walks/game. Those two stats are on the pitcher. All the other ones are team based.

I think iScore has a stat called "first pitch strike". That's kind of fun.
